Horizons PAYING FOR LASER COLOURS!!!

Since Laser Color denotes the actual TYPE of Laser being used in the Real World, I would caution all those "Immersion" focused players about buying these "FAKE" color options for their various laser weapons in the game.

I guess if you don't care about physics realism in the game, then it won't matter, but it is curious how Frontier puts so much effort into trying to do things according to real-world physics etc. and then does something like this.

A classic case of Elite Dangerous meets Arcade Game mechanics.
Even your violet, green and blue lasers are invisible in space anyway. It's essentially a HUD effect, really.

Sorry to point this out, but in reality, you wouldn't see the beams at all, what ever color they were, because laser beams are coherent light, which doesn't radiate out like normal light.
unless there's something to disrupt the coherency, like fog, or dust, the light doesn't reach your eye.

Also a laser in a vacuum would barely attenuate over 300Mm never mind 3km. A 1.8MW beam laser would boil a cubic meter of tungsten instantly regardless light frequency. Can program a 30p 5V chip to fly a drone though hoops but your auto docking computer requires 360kW. Emersion for me, not so much but cool laser effects for a quid? Bargain [yesnod].

I paid 7 quid, 2 or 3 pints of beer: discretionary spending;
If I couldn't spare this amount of money I would not have bought the laser colours and I would not have those beers.

I support ED's development financially when I judge what they offer is OK - laser colours are OK.

Engineers update - were we supposed to get laser colours? That's Horizons though.

Where the hell are you drinking? Ask them if they deliver.

You do realise we in the US are subsidizing UK players ? They are charging $1.75 instead of $1.29 according to current exchange rates.

I'm going to tweet The Donald about this !

Deport them lazers.

Right, cos "planes in space" is real, as is super-cruise, kinetic shielding, hyperspace, and magical transportation back to the station on death (why are ships not made of this escape pod stuff)

You're grumpy cos FD monetised laser colours ... whose to say that the laze medium isn't altered when you buy a colour ?

Grumpy old man I say .. grumpy !

But a laser wouldn't even be visible anyway in space would it? What with it being a vacuum.

Now we've done it. We've alerted FD to the possibility of more paid downloadable modifications.
I can see a future patch, where the graphics for beam weaponry are taken out because "realism", but don't worry, because we'll be able to pay for special visible beam weapons (colors extra).
Also, I see the introduction of special DLC ammo that include tracer rounds.
