Payment for ALPHA Problems

Hi all.

I've been having major problems separating from my cash in order to buy the Alpha. Firstly as I'm a backer, I can avail of the discount £100. So today I decided to get it. I went through PayPal and I was stopped at that stage as Paypal stopped the order due to some problem. I called Paypal and they said my account had not been Validated as I have not used it for some time. (Purely because there is always an issue with PayPal!!). I tried again after fixing the problem with PayPal, but this time it would not give me the discount!

I then got onto Elite Support and got speaking to Ashley. she was very helpful after giving me a code to get the discount, but alas it did not go through again!!

So I went back onto PayPal and they assured me the problem was fixed and I could use my credit card again and that it was approved etc etc.

Again she gave me another code and it still will not work.

Has anyone had the same issues with paypal?? A Few of my friends are giving out about the same thing, so I think I'll join them and Just give up!

We'll wait till it comes out in the shops in about a year or two.

P.S for the smart ones, YES there is money in my account!

I had a similar issue with PayPants, as such I had to ask Ashley for a code, which worked first time, so sorry to hear you are having issues, it does seem PayPal are the cause.

Welcome (almost) to the alpha, Tinman. Paypal are pants. Can't you just use their credit card 3rd party payment without having to login ?

I'm not having a good day at all! ; )
Looks like I've stirred up the hornets nest big time!
I was thinking to try again tomorrow, but I'll probably never get another code, find my account deleted, and won't even get the Bata!! Not only this, but my fiancé found out I tried to buy it today and she is really mad, (she complains when i look at the videos on youtube), she also found my Internet history about the Oculus Rift, she's put two and two together and is really ed-off!

I'll get some Lego tomorrow and make a model of Cobra_Mk.III, run around the house going, whoosh whoosh peaw peaw and maybe she will relent and stop getting so jealous about elite for the sake of sanity.

While I'm on the subject, perhaps a new thread for counciling future players on how to play Elite and keep there loved ones! Or is that possible.

In terms of retaining her sanity in the face of the (semi) youthful exuberance for the release of a remake of a classic game, your better half may eventually succumb / give in / allow you the purchase on one or more rather expensive conditions.... ;)

Paypal is a complete pain in the bum. I try not to use it if possible due to their poor security. I regularly get emails supposedly from them saying that there is a problem with my account and that its been temporarily suspended or limited and can I please download this file to prove I am who I say I am which I always find highly suspect and ignore.

Funnily enough when I read the 'she' I immediately though 'Of course Ashley is a woman, why did it never occur to me before?' then I read the rest of the thread to much hilarity. Thank you internets!

I don't have a PayPal account, and I get those e-mails too...

keeping em out of your internet history would be a good start. :D She shouldnt be mistrusting you in any case if ya were to ask me.

Hope it all goes ok for you with Ashley....you did know about the "bad luck" modifier in the game that has a setting from 1 to 10 - believe you'll be sitting on about 9 by now :)

Can you not just pick the pay by credit card option on the PayPal screen when it asks for payment? You generally don't need to have a PayPal account then - they just process the payment.
