Payouts with new exploration mechanics

I haven't been able to find a clear answer for this. I understand how all the changes work so far but the one thing that always confuses me are the payouts. Now since you get information about planets when you do the honk when you jump in. (i don't remember what the new mode is called) Do you get the full payout by scanning planets with that new mode. Like you would when you use a detailed surface scanner. Like before the update or do you have to fly to the planets. And probe them to get that payout you normally would with a detailed surface scanner before the update?

AFAIK
You get the same payout as fully scanning a planet before.
The probing gives additional credits on top of that.

Yep. Honk is equal in pay as before. (but you get less info on the bodies you find)
Using the FSS to scan planets is equal to scanning planets up close in the old system
Using probes to scan a planets/bodies is new and adds a credit bonus

So I'm assuming what you two are saying is that when you do the new long range scan it is equivalent to doing a detailed surface scan and probing is an extra way to make more money and one other question if either of you know might be stupid but I'm assuming you can only probe landable planets and rings

Thanks for the fast replies and the useful advice

I've been seeing much better payouts than previously, including First Discovered and First Mapped along with Efficiency.

So new system is another layer of credits, compared to old one, right?

In old system you got credits from:
- honk
- body scan
- bonus for "first" tag

New system is:
- honk (the same payout)
- system scan for bodies (equivalent of body scan)
- surface scanning (new)
- bonus for "first" tag
- bonus for "full surface" scan (new)

On paper we should get more credits with new system. Not only more opportunities for money, it looks easier to scan bodies - no need to spend hours flying from one planet to another just to perform body scan. Jump in, honk, scanner sweep and whole system is mapped. If one wants one can fly toward given planet and probe it for additional reward.

amirite?

you can probe every planetary body you come across in any system they don’t have to be ‘landable’ etc (I’ve probed a few ElW and waterworlds in the beta).

(note still sing like a child every time I say “probed”)

edit not singing like a child but the word I used is apparently ‘offensive’ but you get the jist

Does anyone know if it's been confirmed whether or not current exploration data needs to be sold first, or will it carry over into the new system?
