PC crashes when i exit game to desktop

Hi

Hoping someone can help me out.

I've just installed Elite dangerous using Steam. I don't play many games but i loved elite back in the day!

The game runs perfectly on my rather old laptop but whenever i exit game to desktop my PC crashes. If i am in full screen mode the screen turns black and freezes, i have to hold power key to reboot.

If i am running in window mode the PC crashes to a blue screen.

I've had a look at the mini dump files which seem to indicate a problem with the audio driver. I have downloaded and installed all the latest drivers.

As I say i don't have many games but i've never had this problem before.

my system:

My system is HP elitebook
AMD ryzen 3 pro 2300U
Radeon Vega GFX
12GB RAM

Windows 11

Grateful for any advise.

Thanks

which version of the game r u using as it sounds to me your failing to meet the live game updated hardware specifications
and may even fall shy of the older legacy version in regards to how much hardware vram(gfx gpu ram not the motherboards 12GB) available as that had significant updates too since 2014

Hi

Thanks for reply

I meet the minimum requirements but not the recommended (for graphics card)

The game runs really well when i'm playing. The game automatically set graphics to high when i first loaded it based on my system.

I only have a problem when i exit the game.

As for what version of the game - its Elite dangerous. I haven't added anything extra. I only bought and downloaded last week so i assume its the latest version.

If your total system RAM is 12 Gb, your image shows your integrated graphics are only using 1 Gb of it. That is entirely too low for ED. Integrated graphics are a bad idea for this game regardless (IMO).

i thought your current gpu was 3gb the requirement being 4GB 6rec
hmmmm strange having troub getting a true vram you actually have google saying this
What is the vram of Vega 3?

Normally 2GB is the maximum but with newer Motherboards you can use up to 3GB or more for the vRAM in BIOS. So if there is no BIOS Settings to increase or decrease the vRAM of the Vega 3 then whatever you have is permanent. Tweaking Windows won't have any affect with that BIOS setting
type dxdiag into windows start and run it it that should tell you under the display tab a true ram reading

Your system doesn't meet the minimum requirements, regardless of the green check-marks that utility produces. That utility doesn't account for VRAM, and it can't tell the difference between dedicated and integrated GPU's. Your current setup is going to have problems with ED no matter what you do.

you have 1.08gb of v ram do the maths 1000mb=1gb
min requirement 4gb of vram is required 4gb being 4000mb
compooter says no
the only way to run it on that machine is to place a nice modern gaming pc on top of it;)
but all is not lost https://oolite.space/

If the screen turns black, try pressing on the keyboard the Win+Ctrl+Shift+B keys, it will reset the graphics driver if the system is not totally locked. You may avoid the power button forceful shutdown.

Thanks for all the replies.

Annoying because i did the checks on the benchmark site before getting the game.

Strange that the game runs perfectly and looks great, only have a problem when I exit.

oh well, I got the game on offer so no biggie. Shame.

soz i completely forgot the gforce now option appologies but it seems as of this moment the free tariff is at full capacity
and it is limted to 1 hour per day:cry: so paid for is looking the only real viable route..........

no probelm. its all new to me! I can't get a free Geforce account a the moment. It says capacity at full. I'll try another time.

yes and it is only 1 hours play per day so not great i am afraid
looks like paid for is the only real solution again soz about that.......
£8.33 per month min as elite is just not a 1 hour game really

no problem thanks for the help.

I guess i could just keep playing on mine and put up with the crashes when i'm finished!! Not sure it does my laptop any good though!

wont hurt it i dont think just annoying
in the launcher options the legacy version of elite being your best bet imo as that is the least demanding system wise
and set settings to low in gfx options in game is my advice
