PC Gamer almost hit the nail on the head for once.

"My experience of Dangerous has been defined by moments of exhilarating excitement, matched by nothing else this year, contrasted with moments of emptiness, frustration, and boredom."

Pretty good review. 86 but if you read it .. you can tell they are just as frustrated about the lack of depth to this game as a lot of us who've already moved onto other more interesting titles until this one gets up to snuff.

Its a love hate relationship. Love the possibilities and some of the awe.. and then cry in our beer at the simplicity of some of the "features" that could have been.

I think they summed it up better than I ever could - the only thing I disagree with is the scoring. This is more along the lines of what the people actually believe which is a 75.

Completely agree with the narrative of the article and don't really feel that it's 86 mark is too far off really.

All in all, fair and balanced - whilst acknowledging some of the work remaining to do to push it past that 90% mark.

The reviewers have to review the game in its current state and not based on what could be. I hope the Dev's don't have a knee-jerk reaction to reviews and start adding stuff ahead of schedule. I like the current rate the story is unfolding and the pace at which they're releasing updates.

.........you can tell they are just as frustrated about the lack of depth to this game as a lot of us who've already moved onto other more interesting titles until this one gets up to snuff.

"...as a lot of us who've already moved onto other....."

so why you back posting this recycled repetitive copy'n'paste drivel??

i respect the fact everyone has an opinion but please for the love of God inject some fckin intellect in to it and don't just push out the same boring negative trash talk that is filling this forum up

despite what you people say about 'lovin the game BUT....' you clearly don't. You clearly have a negative agenda very very different to those people that offer constructive criticism and ideas.

ill fight for your right to express an opinion but I'd much rather you lot just sod off

I don't think thats accurate, I think you're just projecting your own personal disappointment into how you are reading the review.

If they were frustrated about a lack of depth or content and thought this title wasn't up to snuff then its likely it wouldn't be getting scores in the 7-9 range from pretty much every major site that has posted a review. I see it more as giving the game as it is the appropriate score while also having an understanding of the potential for it to be even so much more with continued development.

Love/hate relationship is exactly how I've described this game from the point at which I was no longer in awe of the breathtaking beauty and wonder. It's so finely balanced for me just now between positives and negatives and I fear the negatives are gradually beginning to overwhelm (fix the networking issues man!).

There's so little (nowt) I care about in their galaxy. The NPCs are about as dull as is possible to create (I'll write some for free - they'll be amazing!) and that simply highlights the lack of human player interaction or perhaps my lack of imagination.

I'm an optimist though and, darn it, I believe in their ultimate vision. Long way off still, in my opinion. Looooooooong way off. Long long long. Ah la la la la long long lay long long long.

I've deleted a pile of off-topic posts attacking the publisher of the review.

Debate the review by all means, but please leave the publisher out of the discussion.

"My experience of Dangerous has been defined by moments of exhilarating excitement, matched by nothing else this year, contrasted with hours of emptiness, frustration, and boredom."

Fixed it for the reviewer. And this is why I'm quitting. I won't let the door hit me on the way out and you can't have my stuff. I might return when they add an actual game.

Well that sort if is the topic Yaffle - no offense its about PC gamer getting it right for once. PC gamer is a shady org and everyone and their mother knows it since its been around. So this is sort of actually bringing up the fact it was an accurate review but the marks were high again even though the slant of it was pretty 50/50 in pros and cons. In this case I applaud the review. It was pretty good take on the pros and cons of the current state of the game.

I just think the marks are a little high and expected because of the poor state of PC gaming these days. We need to really prop up great attempts like ED and make them look better than they are so it'll fund more games like this in the future. I just wish they didnt follow the formula of dumbing a lot of things down for the masses. On the other hand you have a bunch of people crying its too difficult. A difficult situation to be in as a game maker.

Loads of people always say PC Gamer gets paid for their good reviews when they dont like what they read and yet when they like it they dont say anything. The fact is though that score is a little high considering most people on here gave the game an average of 75% and that's the fans of the game speaking. Mind you also one has to bear in mind that most of us have become used to the mechanics and universe over the Beta and are looking for more depth now whereas a lot of people coming to this game fresh will think its marvelous. And rightly because it is a marvelous achievement and a great base to the game to be developed on. And I am still having fun playing it 6 months after buying it. I cant say that about any other game I have. So that's worthy of consideration. I think if I was being brutal I would give this game 75% and if I was being kind I would give it 85% so obviously that bloke is feeling kind. And I can relate to that because whatever is said about it, it is a still a brilliant game and better than any space sim that I have owned since the last Frontier game came out in the 90s. And thats worthy of recognition.

Personally, I feel that the reviewer should re-visit the game for review in 6 months. It very much feels like beta/gamma were "closed beta tests" and where we are now is at an "open beta" stage. There is alot of content that is due to arrive "shortly", upgrades and additions to the different gameplay areas, among the bug fixes in the game and network architecture.

Also, I feel that there should be two different reviews, one for the "screen" gameplay, and the other as a "VR" gameplay. They are two entirely different games. If it wasn't for VR, I would rate this game extremely low (30-40). Using VR, the game rates pretty high, 65-70 (as it stands now).

You don't seem to understand the difference between criticism and just bashing a game. He's not crapping on ED here, it's like telling a loved one a painful truth because you want to see them get better.

despite what you people say about 'lovin the game BUT....' you clearly don't.

They clearly do. The thread on the subject of how great the foundation is, but thin in other areas, is at 25+ pages. They want to see ED get better, and so they identify the weak points of the game. I'm not going to turn this into yet another thread about "the game is lacking in things to do or mechanics to do them," there are other threads for that. But if they DID really hate the game like you claim, they wouldn't waste their time posting here.

In fact, people like you are part of the problem because whenever someone criticizing something, said people tell them to shut up and stop whining and sod off (in the same breath they're claiming they'll fight for said person's right to "whine"). Just because he didn't expound on why he thinks the way he does, does not mean he's just mindless crapping on the game, and your post is ANYTHING but constructive, yourself. So..."inject some intellect" into it, as you say.

You clearly have a negative agenda

That's going too far into tinfoil hat conspiracy theory nonsense.

Yet another identi-copy'n'paste post. Done a thousand times already across the forums, same stuff, same rubbish. You even said you didn't want to turn this thread into another one of those, but then did lol

Reread the OP post, it's not about PC Gamer, it's about how he and others have left the game because because because. YET he's back telling everyone he's left. What ?!?!

And try rereading My post. I don't offer an opinion on the state of the game. I simply make the point that another snide thread from someone claiming to have 'left' but not really is really repetitive and boring, adds nothing to anything, helps nothing and no one.

as for me being part of any problem, I doubt that. Happy to read constructive criticism, it's thought provoking.

Now consider this, you will never build something up by continually trying to tear it down which is the essence of these threads and the like

Point out where they said there are new features coming shortly? Not that I don't believe you but I'm not going to get into this whole vertical slice again with people. They are pretty open with what they are working on. There is nothing hidden and so far they only mentioned that they would be working on wings in the new year. Not that it was imminent or anything though.

The conclusion paragraph was the most interesting and its frustratingly what I've felt the last 6 months. Depth lack of it. Exploration, Mining, Missions (where are the exploration or mining missions?) scripted battles and interesting stories? Even if they are short stories.. make them less dry and get our EMOTIONS involved in the game. Right now this is a blank "who gives a crap" game where the only thing you are concerned with is your credit total. We need more.

"The problems I've listed are fixable, and many like them have been resolved over the course of beta. The game needs tweaks to its balance and progression curves, intelligent alterations to the algorithms that generate content to discourage repetition, and a substantial injection of depth into its influence systems. It needs more stuff, in short, and deeper stuff. The upside is that these weaknesses are revealed by the strengths of the game that exists right now—a game that is, issues aside, capable of delivering some of the best stories about spaceships you've ever taken part in."

Money, Free games etc results in High scores.

PC gamer would rate Infestation Survivor Stories a 90/100 if they were invited to the office.

And dont you all find it funny how, not a single website but one (gamesradar) has mentioned the lack of Multiplayer? As in Playing WITH your friends, progressing together, making money TOGETHER? Without jumping through hoops such as taking turns killing bounties lol.
