Elite / Frontier PC games dead?

If Elite IV is developed for the consoles as well, it will ruin the game on PC. Please, do not release it on console, unless you're going to do a dedicated version for PC.

Admittedly most games that have been released on multiple platforms have had at least one of the platforms compromised in one way or another - be it graphics, gameplay or control-mechanics.

Then again there have been games that have proved that they could work on both PC and console. We have every intention of making sure that all of Frontier's games fall in this category.

The fact that a game is planned for multiple platforms is not necessarily something bad - when a game for a certain platform tends to run into trouble is if the release (of the game) on that platform is requested very late in the development-cycle when all of the important decisions have already been made.

If it is known about from the beginning it tends to be less of a problem.

What I really miss are the home computers. Even if you add harddisks and keyboards and a great OS to consoles you would only end up where we already were.

In an alternate reality, with some better management, Commodore and Atari could still be major players, very much like Apple today.

Not to mention the added income stream and more money means more options when it comes to future development. As long as there is no compromise made in the PC version I am not bothered by a console version. There has been several precidents where PC and Console versions of a game work equally well (Mass Effect, GTA etc).

Personally i think we should expect something similar of what happened with the first ELITE.
This is my thought of course but we will see how far from the true it will be:
ELITE had begun to be developed on PC, but as in the past, Braben&c would release it on the best graphic support of the moment.
In this case i think that nothing could actually match with PS3.
Btw, since the marketing is soo much different from the '80, it is possible that ELITE will be released on many different supports at the same time, of course it depends on the number of persons involved in the making.
Also the hardware marketing is very different, so whenever Elite will be on the final stage it is possible that the PC will have some incredible potentials unknow by now, choosing the pc instead than a console as first release.

well, we need at least, more 2 years to see something moving.. sorry folks but that's the dirty true. :(

Elite IV is one game that cannot be compromised just so it can run on the stupid consoles.

And bearing in mind what DB has managed to wring out of minimal hardware in the past Elite 4 should be one game which doesnt need to be compromised to run on a console.

I believe the way frontier works is that the game is developed on a system independant platform that can then be compiled to run on the system of their choice, rather than developing "for a xbox360" They develop one game, and change the models and textures to suit the target systems graphical capabilities.
