PC questions

Thanks everyone for your advice and I have looked into all the options and as ED is the only game I play I have had to come to the conclusion that to venture into the expensive and risky (compared to console) PC gaming World that the cost is simply not viable so sadly it’s goodbye to gaming for me, it’s been an enjoyable and unfortunately ultimately sad experience, I’m 71 and retired and live in the UK so had hoped to enjoy ED (and then EDO) for many more years, so disappointed. Thanks again.

Don't give up friend!

We can sort something out if you let us know budget, and it will be pre-built so you'll just have to plug it into the telly.

I know it can seem daunting, but the experts here will be able to find something capable, I assure you.

Right boys?

@Meadows65 GeForceNow is a good suggestion. 👍 GFN wasn't for me, I prefer another for streaming EDO, but it would likely meet your needs once cmdr acc transfers are finalised, so don't give up just yet?

Thanks, ive looked into streaming EDO on GeForce Now via Steam and it looks as though it would work om my XBox One, though I haven’t purchased a Steam game yet, so if it would work it would be far preferable to a PC, do you think that if Frontier allow for full account transfers that my current XBox One account would be able to be transferred to Steam ED or would it just be to PC accounts?

At the minute, there are no transfers (not even assets) while they look into the possibility of moving whole accounts (don't get your hopes up).

Personally, I was happy to leave my Xbox CMDR as they were when I jumped ship.

You could sign up for a Steam account now and a free GFN account. Link both accounts. Inside steam visit https://store.steampowered.com/genre/Free to Play/ and choose a free to play ("F2P") game just for testing purposes with GFN. 🎯

This will illustrate to you whether "it would work" or not at home; in advance of FDEV deciding how best to migrate console accounts over to #pcmr accounts; and you can then think carefully about whether free GFN, GFN subs, cloud-pc subs like mine, or @ethelred 's local pre-built gaming pc, will be simplest and give you the best EDO-bang-for-your-buck within your budget.

Perhaps try a few F2Ps in Steam as your internet quality at home throughout the day will be key to both smooth streaming and a low-latency experience. If it's choppy, blurry, dropping connection, and/or treacle slow responding to your gamepad, it's blatant! 🤬

Thanks for all your help but I’m struggling, again, I have both a GFN account and a Steam account and have linked them but I have no idea how to access a game when I open GFN in Edge on my XBox One as when I try to open a FTP game it keeps saying I must be logged on to Steam, does this mean logged on on my laptop or somehow via the XBox, or am I missing something, an idiots step by step guide as to how to play a FTP game on my XBox via GFN and Steam would be very useful please?

Have you purchased the game on steam. Once you have done that I assume it will pop up in the library or such like.

I log onto GeForce Now on my XBox One vie Edge and have linked my Steam account to GeForce now on my laptop but when I select a game on GeForce Now on my XBox and select Steam i can see i must log onto Steam but nothing happens, no way to log onto steam it seems so I’m doing something wrong, any ideas?

@Meadows65 From memory, try this! On your laptop open steam. Choose F2P game and make sure it's on this list https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce-now/games/ when you choose. Go to play the game (even though it may not run it doesn't matter) at least once, because you likely have to create an account for it and accept its T&Cs (EULA) ie Warframe. (Same as with FDEV when you 1st started playing ED.)

Still on laptop in steam, top left corner > settings > tick this box.;

Try faffing again with GFN and see what happens?

If no luck, screenshot what you see and I'll try and see if I can still log into my own ancient GFN account at some point next wk to help you further? (Due to the rare £20 trial this wk, I'm swamped helping guide noobs optimise the cloud one on my profile that I informed you about.) 🍀

I have no idea how I did it but I can now play free to play Steam games on my XBox One via GeForce Now but as ED is the only game I play it’s now just a waiting game to see if Frontier enable us Console players to transfer our full account to Steam at which point I will buy EDO on Steam and transfer my Primary XBox account to it, if they don’t allow for account transfers I won’t be putting any more money into Frontier, fingers crossed and a very special thanks to everyone for your help as before my original post I had never heard of a lot of what has been suggested, thanks again Commanders.

Warning getting into Geforcee now Can result in having very little time for ED at the start..
There are good FREE TO PLAY titles combined with the free to play tier of GeForce now that can result in a very strong pull to play many other titles instead with zero money required...
After the free tier there are 2 paid tiers but second tier is going to be beyond many a ISP supplied connection in minimum ping to be good...
Screenshot from 2022-04-09 16-28-43.png

Higher reolutions now cost more... per month... and require dedicated apps not web browsers.
Geforce now works in chromium/chrome based browsers as EDGE moved to chrome render engine. geforce now allowed the Browser user agent to allow Edge browsers on Xbox...
