Pc specs (upgrades)

Trying to get ready for the 16th Dec launch.

I have bought my son a laptop for Xmas/Bday so plan to take his PC down stairs to the big TV until I get kicked out of the lounge, and that's my Xmas sorted, not sure about the rest of the family :)

I have just ordered the stuff (Black Friday) to upgrade an i5 (4 core) to 10gb RAM, 970 graphics card and 750 power supply.

I plan to get a wireless keyboard and 360 controller with lots of buttons to sit back in the arm chair.

Anybody else doing some PC upgrades for the game or buying new kit?

a lot of us KS backers upgraded long ago, I've already bough 3 monitors and a second graphics card (crossfire) for my PC.

Yeap, going form my Athlon x4 925 and HD 7550 to an FX 8350 amd an R9 270x but the only way I could get it past the boss was an my xmas present so I won't be able to play with it until the 25th.

My gaming laptop broke on the weekend :-( So I just had to go and get a new machine. I did go a little crazy though, R9 295x2, 32GB RAM and hard drives out the wahzoo. It's blooming huge and lit up like a Christmas tree. Plays ED somewhat flawlessly :) Just have to wait until 4K monitors come down in price a bit or wait for Oculus rift

Just how good are those 4k monitors & does anyone know where the best place is to buy one ? (lowest cost)

I stripped my laptop and upgraded the i3 to an i5 for Elite, then redid all the heatsink paste so I could over clock the GPU a bit.

Got a big 720p lcd telly off Gumtree for 20 squids, and that's my Xmas sorted.

Running at a low resolution keeps it nice and smooth and you stop noticing the jaggy pixels after the fourth beer.

Running an AMD 8350 and a gtx670 atm and get about 70 fps. I'd recommend (though they do need time to set up) getting:

Voice recognition software (Voice attack) and setting it up to do landing gear and hyperspace, works very well (until about beer 5, then you might have to repeat yourself)

Head Tracking (I'm using an old web cab and freetrack) to tide you over till oculus release date. Then I'll updgrade the GFX card to match the rift... (November rumour at the moment! )
