Hardware & Technical PC switches off!

There is a good chance that the thermal paste between the heatsinks and the GPU/CPU has dried out allowing air to insulate, this is usually the vector of death for most gaming laptops. Replacing the paste is no easy task with a laptop and I don't recommend opening it up if inexperienced.

try http://alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

for cpu temps

try http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/
this will test your graphics card

I'm seen core temps before. It's a nice program for what it does. But all it does is monitor CPU temps. It doesn't do anything about problems as they arise.

Speedfan does though and can monitor all cpu cores if necessary.

The stress test, I've not seen that one before, though have seen others. Might be intersting.

But another point which I didn't make before is that many Graphics card now come packaged with tweeking software.

My Asus GTX 750 does, but the flip side is, while Speedfan can monitor it, I can't find a means of using it to alter the GPU fan speed. I have set requests to various sources, but have had no responses yet. I suspect not.

The tweeking software, Asus GPU Tweek sets the GUP fan to 29% by default. That is far too low for most games.
