PC vers. vs XbOne

Hey lads / ladesses

A couple of mates of mine have told me they've just picked up ED on the Xbone (all good, all good). So I have been persuaded to crank up the old Anaconda and come join them (ah, go on then!).

So before I dust off the flight stick, I wanted to check a couple of points.
First - do Xbox players play on the same servers as PC players? Is it communicable? (I so, then I can just carry on my account on the PC instead - #winning)

Otherwise, 2 : can I get the game on the Xbone using my existing account (like I did with the STEAM key), or do I need to buy a fresh copy again?
Which leads to c : Do I need to buy all the expansions (again)? or will the login detect that I've already bought the expansions (well, expansion - Horizons) for the PC?

Ummm... yeah. Think that's about it!

tl;dr - this is the end of the message. Why are you still reading?

Bonus content - I have been playing Eve a bit recently (I know - I'm sorry, ok? I'm sorry) - turns out that CODE in Eve don't have the same sense of humour that they dd over here in Elite! Heh!
I kind of feel fond of ED Codies now... :D

1. No. You can never meet xbox players it isn't cross platform play. They just share bgs with us.

2. No you can't. You need to buy everything again (elite dangerous, horizon, paint jobs etc.) for xbox. (not sure if this is still true but when you buy xbox version and have linked your xbox account with frontier you got discount code for paint job on pc. This happened when original xbox version came out but no idea if its still there).

(1) No, only the overall galaxy state is shared (markets, exploration, …), but there is no direct communication.
(2) No
(c) Yes, the purchases are completely separate.

The only shared component is the background stuff (markets and story). Your instance will be PC only players. No, you cannot switch your account, yes, you'll have to buy everything again.

Ah ok cheers guys.
So it's effectively starting again from scratch, yeah? (As in, a new account)
#sadtimes

It is possible for you to swap save data across one time only if you own elite on both xb1 and pc afaik. I seem to remember it being done but support wont do it everytime you want to switch.

Hmm ok.
I wouldn't want to transfer permanently to Xbox since I enjoy the PC version (and have the Vive etc on there).
Whelp! I often wondered how starting afresh would feel!
Guess this is a good time.

How boned is trying to control the game using an Xbox controller then?
I have a feeling this is going to make me sad! Haha!

Well totally new learning curve, good job you are back in a sidewinder.
Be aware some cunningly awesome person mapped landing gear and boost to the same button so watch for that ;)

I dont think its as easy to control on xbox compared to a hotas but easier than mouse+kb imo.
Good luck and enjoy flying ships you neglected on pc. Most fun I had whilst on my 2nd acc was flying like a lunatic in an eagle :p

The best solution would be to get your mates to switch to the PC version, rather than use the inferior console version?

Do it! :)
bribe them all with a hotas if they switch. lol

Nah, it's a shame but I guess it wouldn't make sense for FD to do this financially. I was wondering the same thing myself last week, as I got a brand, spanking new fancy gaming laptop and wanted to swap over. May just have to open two accounts and own the whole thing twice!

yes get them to switch to pc!

explain to them the history of ED and its home computer heritidge (I ignore the Atari 2600 version)........hotas,headtracking,voice attack.60fps or more...over 1080 ([yesnod])...and the game is really designed to be played on pc.....FD Just needed more funds so ported the game to the xbox....fair enough.

also pc has the better games....

and star citizen will be pc exclusive only..(the way it should be).......no consoles holding back that game.

I'd recommend KontrolFreek extenders. I don't know whether they work or not, but they are exactly the sort of feather Dumbo needs to fly.

And as for starting from scratch. I remember we were told during the beta that when Elite went live, all our progress would be wiped. So I practised getting started again and again. I got really good at getting back on my feet after a wipe. They can wipe all your cash and your ships but they can't wipe the skill you've picked up playing the game.

I was all ready for the big wipe when the game went live.. and then we were told we could keep our progress after all <shrugs>

Haha! Oddly enough, we've been having the "PD is the Master Race" discussion all morning! :)
They bought it on Xbox, because it's currently only £12 on Gold. ^_^

I don't mind giving it a go on there, and as Alex mentions above, I'm actually really interested in ging up a different "ship-tree" this time.
I originally went with the Viper, T6, Asp, Vulture, Clipper, T9, Anaconda route on PC, to get the ship I wanted from the start (El'Conda).
Now I fancy playing it in a more relaxed style without feeling the need to rush through to get as much moneyz as possible.
