Peaceful Interactions with Thargoids

There's a few ways to peacefully interact with Thargoids. Such as:

  • They don't attack if you don't have weapons onboard
  • If you give them gifts such as escape pods, meta-alloys for a while their name will turn green in the contacts tab. This could indicate friendliness
  • They seem to remember past interactions
  • They use a lower intensity scan, and you can scan them too
  • Stay at the right distance while scanning (about 500m)
  • Refrained from honking, because it causes them distress
  • They appear to rescue damaged escape pods while recovering their own tech
  • The ship symbol may indicate whether it's peaceful = Oresrian or warlike = Klaxian (see this thread).

Give the Thargoid gifts such as escape pods, meta-alloys and they will turn green in the contacts tab. The green ribbon on an object in the contacts tab usually means that it belongs to a faction that you're friendly or allied with. This happens after about: 72 Meta Alloys, 10-12 Thargoid Sensors and 1 Damaged Escape Pod.

There's currently not much benefits for peaceful interactions.

Would be cool to have Thargoids as a major power in Powerplay. Then people can work for them and vice versa.

Ed in the livestream did seem to talk about how not all the thargoid are the same and not all aggressive, so you would think that is important, though I'm not sure how we can communicate right now - what tools are we missing? Pretty sure people have tried flashing lights - we know they understand Morse??

We'd have to find some way to communicate with the Thargs first...

Anyway, I found this very interesting:

'If you give them a lot of Meta-Alloys their name will have a green highlight to indicate friendlyness'

Are they still showing the 'threat display' afterwards, if you get too close?

Thanks for the heads up.

There must be another way to identify Thargoid "faction" than their "tattoo". Have the series of numbers displayed on the target info panel been decoded yet?

Another thing that bugs me: UAs are corrosive, meta-alloys seem to fix this, so Thargoids are linked to both the disease and the cure. So actually barnacles aren't pit stops, but more like a care dispenser, amongst other purposes (the biggest thing at the barnacles forest has very intriguing crackling noises, as if it was pushing upwards)

Talking about Morse: beam=long, burst=short, actually SDC and other aggressive commanders may try to communicate with Thargoid :)

Numbers were decoded as "Hull stress factor uncertain" for initial encounters. Wonder if we can do something to change the message - maybe dump meta alloys. Might try that later.

So I got my first interdiction today, in a Python, no meta alloys, did have weapons but didn't bring them to bear. There were two ships, one bounced out the other started flying towards me, I backed up slowly and it stopped at 503 metres away. I slowly approached it and it backed off, keeping those 503 metres, I reversed and it closed the gap.
I flashed my lights but don't know Morse code so we sat staring at each other for about ten minutes, no signs of aggression whatsoever, really wishing I could communicate...

I think Oliva Vespera and the guys in the other thread "Study of Thargoid Ship Logograms" are on to something.

If we could discern between agressive and peaceful "clans" that would be a good step forward. Assuming there are peacful clans - but I wouldn't take that for granted.

And feeding them Meta Alloys really turns them green on the sonsors? It would make some sense. But I gotta see proof of this. Thought it was a joke when I read it first.

comunicate with them? easy
i wrote on my plates "GoidsRk3wl" and "iGoid"
than i did the "bee dance". i told him we are friends and their only enemy is galnet-
the thargoid danced me his answer. it told me that he feels very sorry for all the human victims and that this must be a missunderstanding. now hes heading home to tell his bosses about.
we are fine now. problem solved!

What is a lot of Meta Alloys?
I gave one to a Thargoid, he picked it up and turned red.

The only way I didn't have them turn red is when I retracted my hardpoints right after the xeno scan.
I hope to be hyperdicted by a passive Thargoid again, I have some things I want to try out.
Is being hyperdicted purely based on rng?

I've updated the information. You need to give the Thargoids gifts (escape pods, meta alloys) for a while. Then their name will have a green ribbon in the contacts tab. This means you're friendly or allied with them.

I think the Thargoids are not the aggressors here, it's only when we attack them, or harass up to a point, that they will retaliate.

I got real close to one in a defenseless ASPX, prior to the new weapons and scanner becoming available, and it did attack, but did not pursue, allowing me to escape.

My latest meeting was just now, in a kitted out Gunship, and my first combat encounter, and again, even though I was clearly the aggressor this time, having nearly taken out it's second heart before running out of missiles, the Thargoid still did not give chase when I ran, allowing me to easily escape.

I would much rather we had an alien race we can interact with, in other ways, not just with violence. But we don't know exactly what is yet to come.

I will try to gather screens of these different 'clan' markings at NHSS next, because it does seem important to understand better our alien neighbors and avoid to much confrontation. That said, fighting these things is still part of the game, and we are only human.

Now I learnt to keep the right distance while scanning (about 500m) and not stay to close to long. This helps to let them stay peaceful. It really seems most of this Thargoid Interceptor ships are pretty ignorant about theire surroundings, except if it's something they want to scoop up or something lingering in theire comfort zone for to long.

If ignorance is the same as peacefullness - idk. For me it's worrisome that every NHUSS I drop into, is a human ship-graveyard.

However, I hope we can find some ways to communicate - but I am gald there are lots of Cmdrs out there who help to be preapred for the worst case scenario. With regards and thanks to the tireless CG-haulers and the stout fighter pilots out there, who help prepare for what follows when talking fails.

A previous post of mine in the Aliens thread.

My proposal is simple.

Attempts in the form of CGs to research and develop communications devices to open channels of contact with the Thargoids. My reasons are simple.

1. We do not know their intentions and if in the process of failing to arrange peace we may find out their intentions.

2. The Thargoids are not the only race to exist beyond Humanity. It would set an example to any other species we come across that we attempted contact, not to mention we may need help in future.

3. We cannot defeat them without escalation of our technologies, we do not know to what extent our capabilities match theirs. Neither do we know how far their innovation might stretch. Would it not be better to join them in innovation than compete with them if it is at all possible.

4. War should be the last alternative.

I welcome constructive thoughts
