News Peek of the week: Cluster Compound

Greetings Commanders!

This is the Cluster Compound. The third map we're revealing for Close Quarters Combat.

An outpost drifting amid an asteroid field makes a deadly battleground in CQC. Coming to PC, Mac and Xbox One this year. Play the Xbox One preview soon.

I really hope those CQC maps will lay the foundations for unique locations in the main game, like secret pirate bases within planetary rings for example...

This ^^. Seeing that screenshot actually makes me sad for the normal game because it looks so cool, but it's effectively a different game.

So much content missing in E: D :(

Looks lovely! I predict most CQC deaths will be caused by crashing our ships into asteroids and stations, not enemy fire. :)

Edit: This would look nice in a binary system. Needs more than one light source.

For one lovely moment, just one... when I saw that image in the Newsletter, I thought it was a screen shot of (finally) more interesting environments/features and/or gameplay in the core game... But alas...

Pretty pretty please request: can you make the CQC locations available in-game as well as in "CQC mode". So yes, people in CQC can jump into a separate instance and play CQC, but also in the main game we can visit these locations in a "main galaxy" instance - even if there's no CQC going on. Pretty please? Would make the galaxy a less dull place :)

Yes , they need to be.

Hell! Put these CQC zones also in the core game in anarchy systems for PvP combat for those interested... If you get destroyed in one, heavily subsidise peoples insurance costs (as it's for TV entertainment)! ie: So people can take any ship along in the core game and just enjoy PvP!

If you want to go along in Solo then it's just for sight seeing etc...

A nice addition to my wallpaper collection (I shall pretend I didn't notice the weird lighting on the asteroids in the distance, just like I do in the game)

Echoing others' responses, I have to ask (knowing full well that I won't get a reply): "Are we going to see interesting places and structures like this added to the main galaxy rather than just to instanced-off separate games/metagames?".

We've been crying out for more variety of stations, outposts and landmarks since release...

;-)

If they are secret nobody will know they are there and they will continue to complain that the universe is empty of secrets.

+1 to all of this.

I think it is obvious that space elevators and other CQC assets will translate into the main game in some form. Why would FD not re-use them? The last newsletter said the space elevator was borrowed for PvP, which is a huge hint.

Exactly what I'm thinking - the rings need much more variety in the main game.

Maybe you could learn about it by talking to NPCs... which would require significant upgrades to certain mechanics, but is something I hope we'll eventually see.
