People are killing Thargoid Interceptors solo already.

Yes you need a big ship for the dual fighters to disctract the Swarm, you need to be careful with your Ammo since you can not synthesize it but my first attempt to this Guide: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/380292-How-to-Solo-a-Thargoid-Interceptor-Video went really well. I got the last heart on 50% when i ran out of ammo. It takes a lot of time but yeah its absolutely doable and takes the whole threat of that Species away. As soon as we get more and better Weapons they will be extremely Easy to kill. I mean.. im absolutely not a pro... If i can get the last heart to 50% with the current weaponry, even the worst Pilot will be able to kill them with more or better AX Weapons.

I think they need a buff :/

Edit: Btw, those are not just Scout ships. The Scout ships look different as you can see here: https://imgur.com/JxEWa3Z

As Gluttony said, I think we should wait to see what other ships we come across. The scout ship you link to is an original 84 thargoid ship.

I think we should wait and see what other types of Thargoid will surface, for all we know, the interceptors are just foot soldiers or Viper equivalent to our ranking of ships.

Either way, I am glad you found my guide useful.

Yes it was! Im in a Cutter myself (Glory to the Empire *cough*) and it worked extremely well for me as written above. I think 1 or 2 trys more and ill get it done myself.

Does anyone know if the Thargoids respond differently based on the number of players engaging it?

I'm just wondering if solo'ing it causes it to use stuff like the stun-pulse less frequently.

you have answered your own question here, there are other ships in the game

Are they harder than human NPCs? Do they need a different tactic? Do they need "end game" ships? Is the outcome uncertain notwithstanding?

As far as I've read (I haven't had time to try it out myself yet and don't want to shoot unprovoked anyway), all of this is true.
And if it's true, it is exactly as promised/advertised by FDev.

ED was and is still foremost a single player game. Expecting Thargoids to be invincible enemies for single players was a pipe dream anyway (and probably a bad one, too).
If they pose a hard and interesting challenge that needs an adaption of my behaviour, I am personally satisfied with the result.

First attack I knocked out two hearts in my facetank python. I can typically get three down before I run out of ammo or have to bug out... one C3 burst laser isn't very effective on the shields, and no distraction.

This is fine.

Of course people in properly decked-out cutters/corvettes will have success soloing them... as others are saying this is likely just the tip of the iceberg.

If they made everything about thargoids not soloable, that would be a bad idea. I have no problems with, say, a Thargoid capship escorted by multiple interceptors needing a wing and never being soloable... but single ships? That's fine.

So much this. Balancing ED is a bit problematic and Engineers is a bit dark horse regarding this, but I think Thargoids fare quite well all things considered.

"In a high-end ship I eventually managed to almost kill one." :)

I suspect we'll get both new modules and new tgargoids, so as the range of difficulty widens everyone will be able to fight at least some thargoids.

I don't see why we can't have both a scenario/ship that's killable for solo players, and another scenario/ship that absolutely needs larger groups.

I'd like to see a CMDR who has been hyperdicted by the two stalker Thargoids aggro both of them and try to take them down solo... If 4 missile racks is barely enough to take one, I'd say two is a near impossibility.

Still, the fact a Player CAN kill them solo is a bit sad. Lets wait for the bigger and more Dangerous Thargoids.

CAN within set parameters, you CAN also climb Everest without oxygen tanks, it doesn't make it easy

don't get me wrong I would advocate a "hard & completely insane zone" for CMDRs to go play in, but it needs to be optional, haz res style, and it can be full of backside handing cutters / vettes / goids you cant possibly kill.

Its numerically impossible.

Precisely. If one can be taken out solo, but it requires a wing to take two on, then I'd say the challenge is an order of magnitude above that of human NPCs.

Everyone knows you can CZs and HazRes, taking on wings upon wings of ships solo with not a lot of effort.
To need a wing of heavily armed and engineered ships to take on just two Thargoids says the level of challenge from them is pitched right.
