people at BP are SCREWED

We'd love to add the Orrery, but there's a long list or higher priority items above it :-(

Michael

Expose an API that lets us query(/generate) the system contents and state (i.e. orbital locations), and let us do it. It probably makes more sense as an external app/web-app anyway; we can load it on a tablet/iPad and refer to it as we move about the system.

Well, in the livestream this morning both David and Michael Brookes confirmed that not only are Thargoids coming soon but so are other alien races. Of course, “soon” is a very loose term to use, I mean over a year ago they said that the orrery system map would be coming soon in an update. So, it could be in today’s patch, it could be for season 4, but aliens shooting at us in deep space certainly does seem to be on the roadmap….

Yes, Soon™, I believe the the exact term often associated with Mr. Brookes.

I think I will make a shirt...

Actually, this would be quite awesome. I'd love a tablet version of such an app - I'm working on my Teh Awesome™ MK II command chair, and am going to have a 'Droid tablet in the middle between my knees, not unlike the one in the game. I just need to work out how to have that, and a keyboard there somewhere as well for easy access.

OMG so much this. Include all sysmap information then maybe I can stop trying to pass images with OCR! Free the data!

I'd love to take it on, but I don't know if the System Map-level of information is or will ever be available via the Companion (or any other) API.

But - for me at least - it'd be massively more useful to have the System Map remain open on my tablet, than honk -> waiting.... -> Map -> fly to next planet -> waiting.... -> Map -> next planet -> waiting...

I'm already working* on a ED styled "console screen" app for chat and file sharing/browsing. I'd love to add something like this.

(* well.. Distant Worlds happened..)

Ever played Fallout 4 with the pip-boy app on a tablet? WAY more immersive! You do not pause in the game, so no real time 'cheating' and you can see everything dynamically update as you move around.

Yes, bring good coffee and some biscuits. :)

Be happy to help you out if I ever get there. With the current developments regarding the Egineers and the Dangerous Games, my best prediction is sometime later this year. I'd prefer it to be before Christmay, but I won't make any promises. Highest point on my list: get my flying coffee machine equipped for exploration, which means finding some Engineers to tinker with the FSD and reduce the mass of everything else...

You heard wrong.
FD wants the orrery, Braben as well as Sandy have said so on several occasions, but it is not a small thing to implement and will therefor require considerable dev resources.

No i didn't :) MB already replied to me, and he didn't tell me I was wrong.
Bottom of a long list could mean 2 or 7 years, until it happens, it's not happening.

I don't know what the latency would be like with the API (i.e. how responsive would the system map on a tablet be), but it'd be fantastic if that updates on the fly as you're manoeuvring around the system.

Thanks for replying and creating this juxtaposition :)
