People complaining about planet coaster...

Was really disappointed when DB got on the stage at some event and everyone thought he was going to announce something about elite but he stopped short and just said something about planet coaster instead (can't remember what event it was)

After watching the videos though... it does look like really good fun! Dunno if ill play it myself but I reckon I know a lot of friends who will and I hope it does well.

Hmm, a business has the audacity to do more business. With a (mainly) different development crew writing another game (which looked pretty damn good few years ago, and the technology from which could make it into ED!). To continue doing business and bring in much needed dosh to continue (partially) developing the game we are playing.

I fail to see any issues and will probably dip my toes to see what the situation is about :)

The game industry is brutal. Studios are constantly going out of business, but most especially (pretty much inevitably) studios with all their eggs in one basket. Because of the turbulence of the industry, all studios have rough periods of financial stress, and it's usually only an inevitable matter of time before hitting a rough patch that is too rough and the company goes under. But if you have multiple projects going then the income (or investors) of one project can keep the company alive long enough to survive a rough patch in the other project that would otherwise end the company, so it becomes much better equipped to weather the rough seas.

The best possible thing for Elite is for Planet Coaster to be as wildly successful as possible.

Tech developed for Planet Coaster will be shared with Elite and enhance it, and vice versa. The staff will be shared (many will be dedicated to one or the other, some will be working on fundamentals that benefit both, some will be "firefighters" that move to whichever thing currently has the direst need, etc. More devs will be hired and on-site, etc.) The result will be a stronger more flexible and resilient FDev. And a resilient FDev that can stay alive for the long haul is incredibly incredibly important because I bought the lifetime pass :D :D :D

Planet coaster looks like an ok game.

My wallet is a buisness and its no longer opening for blizzard products, and depending on 2.1. maybe for frontier.

You shouldnt care about companies and their troubles, they dont give a damn about their customers who finance them why should I care for them? If the game is good I will buy it if it sucks I will not, too many early access beta, alpha crap going around.

I only hope there is a planet of roller coasters available somewhere. Maybe that's what's in the Formidine Rift. They certainly scare the bejeebus out of me :)

Why is it so hard for players to understand that it's entirely possible for a company to give 100% effort to more than one project at a time? Once a team has all the required manpower and resources, the existence of another game will not affect this game one bit.

My interest in Planet Coaster extends as far as seeing how the engine creates crowds, as it gives an indication of what we can expect here when that feature is brought in. Personally, I think you guys who want to build roller coasters as "gameplay" are completely bonkers*.

* I like that there are people in the world that I consider to be bonkers though. :)

Frontier has become an editor. It is normal that it develops several games simultaneously. I like the different varieties of graphics in its games

If FD have more irons in the fire they have a more stable income, which is good.

Also - they are developing the Cobra engine, so it can do more stuff, which is good.

Stuff developed for Planet Coaster (PG landscapes, cloud effects, character animation etc.) can be transferred to ED easily, which is good.

So it's all good from where I'm sitting :)

No they don't...their workforce is split pretty much 50/50 between the games.

What's your source for that information?

ED also DO have dynamic lensflares

I saw lots in the fundraising and advertising videos but I don't think I've seen one in the game. Can you post a screenshot?

Why is it so hard for players to understand that it's entirely possible for a company to give 100% effort to more than one project at a time?

Because players understand arithmetic? :)

Once a team has all the required manpower and resources, the existence of another game will not affect this game one bit.

ED is far short of having all the the required manpower and resources. Consider the large number of bugs, the long time passed since the last major update, and the recently announced setback to the Horizons schedule.
