People = returning guardians

Humans = Guardians

EventApproximate DateDescription / Argument for the Theory
Guardians emerge~1 billion years agoThe Guardians evolved as a biological species on their homeworld. Rapidly transitioned into a highly advanced technological society.
Guardians create AI~2 million years agoThey created a powerful artificial intelligence, which later rebelled. Their civilization reached its peak.
War between Guardians and AI~1.3 million years agoThe war devastated the Guardians, leading to the collapse of their civilization.
Final Guardian colony perishes~1 million years agoThe last known Guardian colonies died out. However, it's unknown if all truly perished.
Humans appear on Earth~300,000 years agoHumans emerge as a new intelligent species, remarkably different from other primates. Evolutionary jump.
Mythology on Earth10,000–100,000 years agoMany human cultures share stories of “gods from the sky,” lost knowledge, or star ancestors — possibly cultural echoes of the Guardians.
Humans begin space exploration20th century (1900+)Humanity begins to repeat the Guardians' path. Massive technological leap within a century.
Contact with Thargoids3125 (Elite) / 3303 (Elite Dangerous)Thargoids react to humans as a familiar threat, possibly due to a genetic memory of past conflict with the Guardians.
Humans activate Guardian tech3304+Humans can use Guardian technology, including hybrid weapons. Possibly due to shared ancestry or compatibility.
Psychology and culturePresentHumans and Guardians share values: logic, creativity, balance between biology and technology, ethical concerns about AI. This may be genetic or cultural memory.

Very unlikely that humans and guardians are related, given very significant differences. Yes, 700,000 years of evolution means it's possible, but there would have to be a driver for those changes.

Taken from in game data (courtesy of Canonn):

"The Guardians had red skins, sharp cutting ridges on their forelimbs, small faces, and round, dark eyes adapted to bright sunlight. The lower gravity and higher temperature on their planet meant they were taller and more slender than humans. The were more agile and resilient than us, with greater auditory and visual senses, but more vulnerable to cold and with a limited olfactory sense. They were carnivorous, and hunting, killing, and serving meat remained an important social ritual. They had two distinct sexes and sex had an important role as a recreational as well as procreational activity. Their anatomy enabled them to become temporarily sterile at will, allowing for population control and fewer taboos around sexual activity."

I’ve always liked the idea some Guardians made it to earth and made chimeras with indigenous fauna to survive the environment, or to create a working class, or just for fun, then long after they were gone their creation(s) (d)evolved into humans. Not to say I could back it up with lore, just a fun theory.

Almost certainly, there's an Infinite Monkey Cage episode which suggested we all have @2% of their DNA.

Not just Neaderthals, although that would have more prevalence in Europe. In Asia you'd have interbreeding with the Denisovans - another human sub species. There's a lot of genetics you'd have to ignore for humans to have come from another planet and ED is supposed to have the same history as actual reality- it extends from our timeline rather than having diverged at some point.

No, very similar to their closest relatives. In fact there weren’t even the only hominid species until around 40,000 years ago, and there’s evidence that they even interbred with Neanderthals.

Wasn’t it suggested somewhere that it is neanderthals where white skin colours developed.
Those with least neanderthal DNA tend to be in Africa.

Careful the Panspermia brigade will be waving pitchforks :ROFLMAO:

The brigade just have to set the event to around 4.5 billion years ago, then everything works.

I think Ridley Scott already made a movie about this.

Heh,

Was just about to say;- IIRC, Prometheus had just been released when ED arrived and I'm pretty sure there were people at FDev who took "inspiration" from that movie, regarding the Guardians and the Thargoids.

Just don't let an android do the fingering. :whistle:

Ever seen a PF rep in the flesh...?

Ever wondered why they're so secretive...?

To be fair: His film was a very artistic interpretation of the facts. Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey documentary almost accurately portrayed the Guardian Monoliths.
And hence the word 'Odyssey' in the film title - this is where the circle closes (@Ozric: See? I'm sticking to the game). Ridley Scott, Stanley Kubrick, FDev — they all know it - THEY KNOW IT!!!
