People who own both a steam copy and a direct copy of the game: do they conflict?

I'm thinking about (possibly) buying a second game copy to be able to play in different powers and RP different characters (an empire loyalist and a independent mercenary), and also to enable me to have an account I don't care as much for, and therefore can freely wipe and play Ironman with.

So my question is simple. Can you buy both direct (my current copy) and steam, and switch between the two without having to deal with additional verification emails because you swapped accounts, or any of that nonsense? To be honest I'd prefer an answer from someone who has actually done this and has experience/proof that it works, but other people's knowledge is also welcome...

The free steam key is tied to your current account. A secondary purchase, must be registered with FDev separately and, is a second account.

The only interference I could see might be on keybinds as both versions might use the same file set for that...but if you make a user<1FDev> bind and a user <2Steam> bind then you just choose between them.

The games don't conflict with each other. Only issues are as follows:

1) If you use the same launcher for both accounts and changed the login details to access the accounts you will get a verification email every time. To get around this, you need to use both launchers seperatly. This shouldn't be a problem anyway if you have a Steam copy and a store copy as Steam will use the Steam launcher anyway.

2) Both copies of the game will use the same bindings and graphic preset files. In most cases this is a bonus as it means you won't have to rebind everything (though your current bindings might get wiped with the new install).

3) You will end up with two copies of the game installed. The Steam copy and the Frontier copy install to separate locations.

But other than that, it works without a problem.

Oh...and doing an Ironman Challenge is a lot of fun! :D

I have an fd copy and a steam copy . Two separate fd accounts with different email addresses is required . It did not wipe my key bindings for my Warthog hotas . I play iron man with my steam cmndr. And no conflict at all .

I have both and don't have any issues. One and same account. :)

i got my free steam key the other day and installed on there and started playing without any problems using my original FD account. After i installed it on Steam i uninstalled the old launcher and havnt had any problems with Steam and havn't needed to change any configs.

I have a Steam and Frontier download copy of the game with two accounts / license files. This is exactly correct. With separate launchers I do not have to type in a confirmation each time.

And yes, an Ironman challenge is fun. :D
