General / Off-Topic People will steal anything...

Someone managed to pinch/nab/what's-the-right-word-for-this?- a golden toilet from an exhibit. ( Please, if you can get the right word, let us know!)

The potential market must be huge.
But how exactly do you walk around with 400 lbs of gold, and the plumbing tools to disconnect it from the wall fittings without a guard grabbing you?

If they ever make the movie, watching them just plan the heist will be hilarious.

Its stole as its past tense. The object was stolen, but that would make it steal, as in to steal from someone. that then makes the item stolen. But as you worte it, pinch is a correct use.

...unless it's just gold sheet over a core of something else.

Hmm.
Like gold sheet over a standard porcelain fixture, with all the working fittings? That would be the obvious way to make it cheaply, accurately, and have it work.

The value of the thing might be far in excess of the material, as an "art piece", if we can generously extend the description as far as that.

Be a disappointing literal meltdown for the crooks if that were the case.

Modern Art is hard to understand to say the least. But having it stolen and melted down might be sort of fitting in the end.

According to Blenheim Palace General Manager Dominic Hare, the toilets are estimated at between $ 5 and $ 6 million (4.5 to 5.4 million euros), not a million pounds as previously reported in the British press.
