Perfect PC Build for Planet Coaster?

Hey,

I am desperate to play Planet Coaster and have been since it was announced.. Trouble is, I don't currently have a computer capable of running such a large game. I have been looking for months for a PC that suited my needs but to be honest I don't really know what I'm looking for in terms of being able to run the game.

So! I decided I am going to attempt to build my own gaming pc, I've been reading up on it and watching videos etc and I think with a little help I can do it.

But before I can even do that, I need help on what to buy! I know there are minimum requirements for Planet Coaster, but when you don't understand the computer language it's not really much use knowing what is needed!

I'm looking to keep it all fairly inexpensive, but I'm willing to pay a little more to get the most out of the game.. I just don't want to spend thousands on something that won't get to reach its full potential.

I've been looking about and found various components for my build but I got a bit stuck when I realised they might not all be compatible with each other.

I am interest in an i7 Intel CPU..
Is anyone able to be so kind to take the time to list out the best compatible components I should use with this to be able to run this game smoothly? Like literally every single thing I'd need to build the whole thing?

Sorry to be such a pain, I'm willing to learn though!

Thank you in advance to anyone that takes the time to try and help!

Anna. :)

Hi Anna,

Around two months ago I did the same.
I did not want to spend thousands, but well... In total it got around thousand...

Those are my 'ingredients', hope this can help you :D

Motherboard:
Asus Maximus VIII Ranger
Processor:
Intel Core i7-6700K - Boxed
Memory:
Corsair Vengeance LPX - DDR4-2400 - 16 GB
Hard Drive:
Western digital Blue - 1TB
Graphics Card:
MSI GeForce GTX 950 - Gaming - 2GB GDDR5 (Though, I would recommend a newer one)
Power:
Corsair VS550 - 550W
Cooler Processor:
Forgot, but that's not that hard.
Housing:
NZXT S340 Colour Edition Black/Red
Cooler Housing:
Corsair Air Series SP120 Quiet Edition - 120mm (2-pack)
SSD (optional):
Samsung 750 EVO - Retail - 250GB

Hope this helps you ;)
This setting has no CD/DVD ROM driver, because I still had one on USB (but those are less than €10, so not a big deal)

Good luck :D

Ah, this is exactly what I needed! Thank you! Handy too because I already had my eye on the S340 case [big grin].

Forgive my stupidity, but with the whole cooler biz, how do you know if it's sort of good enough to do the job? If that makes sense? I mean I still don't really know what each thing does but a cooler sounds important so I don't wanna blow the thing up if that's possible ha! [where is it]

Is there anything in between those? I'm struggling to figure out what is bettter than what based on the names alone because it doesn't seem to be the higher the number the better.. or is that the case?

I just picked up a new PC today after my other one died (MoBo/CPU died), picked up a pre-built gaming PC. Currently running an i7 6700 processor, 16gb ram, and a GTX 1060.

Playing Planet Coaster on this machine compared to my other is like night and day. Buttery smooth on here, much easier to work with too when actually working on a park, no lags.

I'd agree with this, My build itself is very close to this just with a GTX 1080 and an EVGA 850W PSU. Along with a custom water loop but that has nothing to do with gaming lol

My system is a 6700k, 16gb DDR4-3200, GTX 980Ti, and the game is installed on an SSD. My wife's system is a 4690k, 16GB DDR3-2400, GTX 970, and the game is installed on a standard 7,200RPM drive. While more complicated parks do run better on my system, 90% of the game runs great on hers. I think as long as you have a quad-core (six-core if you're going AMD), at least 16GB of memory, and a modern GPU with at least 4GB of VRAM, you will do fine.

I should mention that I game at 2560x1080, and the wife uses 1920x1200.

Just so you're aware even higher end PCs struggle with Planet Coaster with a detailed park and lots of peeps running at ultra settings. The peep limit option really helps if you have a low-mid range PC.

Also for the cooler, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is a very nice cooler. It does the job and it's fairly cheap and easy to install.

Check out www.pcpartpicker.com they have lots of example builds and the system builder is very good for creating your own system including showing any compatibility issues. Generally speaking with a mid range PC you would get an i5 but as PC is very cpu intensive an i7 might be worth it, I would like to see some benchmarks for comparison.

If you could say how much you want to spend I or someone else could throw together a build to give you an idea of what to get. Also see if there's anything you can salvage from your old pc PSU/case/hard drives etc which could save you money.

Right now I have:

  • i5 4690k
  • MSI GTX 980 4G
  • 16 GB DDR3 - G. Skill Trident X
  • Antec 900 mid tower case
  • WD Blue hard drive

I just bought the i7 4790k and Swiftech 140x liquid cooler to get better performance (not installed yet). But I'm getting 60+ fps with about 1,500 guests and then it gradually drops to about 30 fps with almost 4,000 guests. No issues though as the game still runs smooth. Definitely get an i7 to help with the crazy calculations.

I mean it's the best CPU and gpu you can afford really.

If you can afford a 6 or 8 core i7, get one. The 5280 isn't particularly expensive. This game is quite CPU intensive. My 5280 works it's butt off, but I can put together quite a large park without increasing the lag.

Technically, the cooler that is provided with most CPUs is "enough" to do the job at stock clock speeds. Most people recommend getting an upgraded cooler since they can better respond to thermal conditions in the CPU and can be quieter. If the reviews on a product are good then it probably performs well enough. If a lot of people talk about overclocking with the cooling product then it performs very well.

You'll need to throw out a budget number. We're not sure what inexpensive means to you. To some people it means an i3 machine with minimal memory, storage, and graphics capabilities in a cheap case. To others it means an i7-E series CPU with multiple storage drives, graphics cards, and tons of memory.

Personally, I run an Intel i7-4930k, Intel water cooler LGA2011, Asrock Extreme4-m x79 chipset, 16GB DDR3 QC, RAID 0 SSDs (2x) SATA3, Lepa GMA500, Nvidia 1070, and dual monitors (one is a Huion pen tablet display). I do content creation and development so this is not overkill for me, but it probably is for you. This setup plays Planet Coaster very well.

I'd recommend an Intel Core i7-6700k or an i7 processor with at least 4 cores, 8 threads, and a clock speed of AT LEAST 3.5Ghz. An AMD R9 390/390X/Fury/FuryX or AMD RX 480 8GB, or a GTX 1070 8GB GPU, and 16GB DDR4 system RAM, if you want to play this game on 1920x1080 max settings. While the Intel Core i7-6700k doesn't have 8 cores 16 threads, it does have a HIGH base speed of 4Ghz with turbo boost to 4.2Ghz and can be overclocked. I also have an AMD R9 390 which meets the "Recommended" system requirements too.

These are the official "Recommended" system requirements. According to it, even a GTX 970 does not meet the recommended requirements. A system which meets the recommended requirements will likely run the game better than a system which only meets the minimum requirements. If your PC meets the recommended requirements, it should be able to play this game comfortably at 1920x1080 High settings. Getting a GPU with 8GB vRAM I think helps future proof it more, since VR and 4k may require more vRAM usage which might bottleneck a 4GB GPU. Also see if you can get an SSD in your expensive. Yes these things in your system can be expensive, but you will get better graphics/fps. An SSD can also boot up your PC in 10 seconds where as a PC running on an HDD can take 2-4 minutes to boot up. SSD's also save and load faster than HDD's.

I know you said you wanted to build one. But cyberpower has been running deals lately where you can't buy the parts for cheaper than they are selling the assembled units.

One example -
Gamer Infinity 8800 Pro Desktop PC: i5-6600K, 16GB DDR4, 240GB SSD, GTX 1080, Win 10

https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/fp/242931

And you can customize it all and get it built to your needs and price range
