Hi everyone! I am a current owner of the Obutto oZone gaming cockpit. I have also had several desks with several different chairs of varying comfort. I am very unsatisfied with the compromises made between these two options. Standard desks are crap for HOTAS whilst the Obutto sucks at being your normal desk or for RTS MOBAs or general work. Add to that the chair that comes with most cockpits like the Obutto leaves much to be desired.

This frustration has led me to design and begin fabrication on a desk that will combine these two effectively and allow you to switch to a standing position as well! The idea boils down to this: Begin with a curved desktop that can lay flat or angle up to 30 degrees with 3 different locking positions in between. (Note all locking positions are controlled by easy to reach buttons). The desktop will also slide backwards and forward 1 and a half feet in either direction. The monitors are mounted on a lightly angled independent slim surface that can also be moved up and down forwards and backwards for ideal position for anyone. There is a chair base on wheels like a normal desk chair but this base will be able to be locked into the desk with two sizable bars effectively making it like the Obutto. There are three sliding mounting brackets on the base for HOTAS attachments. This could be mass produced for around $1200 we think.

The fabricator I use was very excited about my basic design, and we thought perhaps more people would want something like this. I am making this post/poll to gauge interest in perhaps running a kickstarter and also for a business presentation to a potential investor. Feedback is very appreciated.

TLDR: read middle paragraph and vote! Concept art coming soon.

More information required. Lots more.

And Pictures.

But I suspect you'll be better off having a better gaming seat setup and a good desk, with multiple KVMs connected, one set for gaming & one set for 'work'. Yes it takes more space, but you're not compromising either.

The obutto stuff is already expensive and making it better for both tasks will add to the $$$. If you make it to expensive you won't sell any. I seriously considered an Obutto, but it was just to much $$$

I'm interested in a decent gaming cockpit, but the Obutto doesn't look as ergonomic as I'd want. For instance, I'd want arm rests so I can anchor my arm and wrist while moving the joystick. Same for the throttle. I have a reasonable setup now, but my joystick arm could use more support. It might have to do with that side being the entry/exit. My left (throttle) side already wraps all the way around and is slightly lower than the desk in front. Something that swings away on the right side for entry/egress would probably be good.

The monitors on the Obutto seem a bit high too. I don't like cricking my neck. I guess a fully adjustable monitor setup would be important if I were to change out my cockpit. What I have will do until I find something better.

MottiKhan: The reason I only mention the chair base and not the seat itself is because I went to the scrapyard and bought a bucket seat out of a wrecked car. I have to have arm rests that was the biggest disappointment of the Obutto. The plan is to offer a default seat of comparable quality to the Obutto but with armrests, however the base has versatile enough mounting options that with a little effort you can put any chair you wish onto it. I plan to offer the base only as standard with an optional included chair if you don't wish to add your own.

I don't know that you'll solve this.
I have a standing desk at my office and a sim pit at home.
I don't see a way to integrate the two.
the sim pit is terrible for Keyboard and mouse activities, in fact I'd junk it except for how much I love using my pedals.

That market has already been cornered, bar the standing desk swap-out.

Really niche market to break into, but i will wait for the kick-starter to judge interest.

Best of luck!
