Perplexed?

So, I took a mission on to go scan a planet. Cool, thought I, an exploration mission!

So, I flew into the target system, scanned the nav beacon and flew to the planet in question. I zeroed in on a small colony or whatever, and landed nearby. My task was to repair some doohickey and collect the data from it.

So, I hop in my SRV and approach the outpost, only to be attacked by scorpions. Pirates! I dispatch them relatively easily, and shoot at a turret that's flagged red. Can't hurt it, so I go to the data node to get the data.

Suddenly, I get notice I'm now wanted, a bounty of 500 for trespassing.

Huh?

How can I get a bounty for trespassing at the outpost THEY sent me to? I can't imagine the PIRATES would have levied a bounty on me for trespassing on a pirate base...

It really ticks me off, I play CLEAN, only take legal missions, never speed or smuggle or engage in battles or anything. I really, REALLY hate having criminal events on my record, but I'm not starting over (again).

So, how do I get rid of this damn thing?

Mission board statement "Note these actions are considered illegal by some."

I avoid these missions like the plague.

Sounds like you got caught in the middle of a power struggle within a pirate faction. Or one pirate leader put a contract out on your head.

Cleanest way to get rid of it is to fly some place else for a week. Then it will change to a legacy fine and you can pay it off to that faction.

I think you can go to the interstellar contact in a system without that faction and pay the bounty there. You will also pay a handling fee.

Bounties are most often only active in the very limited 5-somewhat km radius of the offended station. Flying off of the pirate station, and the wanted sign is off. The bounty is still there, but system security will not turn against you.

Reason is that system security belongs to the minor faction controlling space around a station (be it planetary or orbital). Only if the faction controlling the whole system puts a bounty on your head, you are wanted system-wide. So, as long as the pirate faction is not controlling vast areas of space, and as long as your bounties are too small to attract serious bounty hunter npcs, this shouldn't harm too much.

Edit: wanted sign, not bounty sign

The service you refer to is called Broker Network on the System Map (Interstellar Factors in the contact menu) and are usually found in stations in low security systems.

It's been like this since update. I'm getting mission offers in 1 system from a minor faction both legal and illegal to kill members of the same faction in neighbouring systems. I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't the same leader in the faction who offers me missions in both.

Approach the beacon carefully and if you get a "trespass warning", just back up before it becomes active. Public beacons are scannable by everybody. Private beacons, if scanned usually result in skimmers going hostile/wanted status. Simply jump to another system and wait for the timer to run out (it should say "on h jump", then jump back and pay it off. It's kind of a pain, but not the end of the world.
