Personal Logs [Semi-repost]

Personal Logs [Open]

Greetings Commanders. My name is Commander "Maddog" Goldman of the Imperial Navy. I have been using this depository for storing my own personal logs for future use so as to save my memoirs for future generations. Recently, there was an error within this system that resulted in the deletion of most of my log files which, coupled with my recent acquisition of a new ship, has erased all mention of my log files. Thankfully, I have saved some of the earliest ones and my most recent one. I am opening this depository for all Commanders who wish to post here, with the following requests:
  • For your own safety, please redact all information regarding your whereabouts like so:
    Location: [REDACTED]
    I am at [REDACTED] Station.
    etc.
  • For the safety of other Commanders, please also redact their names unless they give you permission.
  • Please edit your previous entries and add to them rather than continue to reply.
  • Please be respectful. (This doesn't mean no profanity, it's supposed to be a role-playing log so if your character would say it sure, but don't be asinine about it)
  • This list may be added to in future.
You can style it how you want, however I have a pre-set style I've been using of which you can see an example below:

Stardate: XX, Oct, 33XX
Location: [REDACTED]
Ship: "SS Example" 0A-12B-34C
Log: Bla blah blah

I would recommend this for each entry.
NOTE: My initial foray into this I made a log entry every few hours. I would not recommend this since it is time-consuming, my most recent entry was a small summary of days worth of adventure.

PS: Feel free to have some fun with it, I know I have. Most of what I've written is only based on the actual gameplay, and has been added on top of what really happened.

PPS: IF you see me in game, I'll be trying to stay in character. I would prefer it if you responded in kind. Makes the whole game a bit more fun.

PPPS: If you wish to read more about Commander Goldman, read Commander "Maddog" Goldman's Tale of Woe and Fortune, which is the backstory behind the character, written when I first joined Elite: Dangerous.

I have been sitting in [REDACTED] for the past few days, some damned plague keeping me grounded. According to the doctors here it’s a common infection for [REDACTED] and that it was a simple, if time-consuming treatment. At least I’m finally back on my feet, though the suddenness of the sickness did open my eyes to my legacy. What if I were to die out in space, unknown and unidentifiable?

I’ve decided to log my experiences here so that any who do find me can at least tell who I was. It gives me something to do with my time as well. Though I will admit, the people here are much nicer then back at [REDACTED]. Perhaps I’ll make my home here rather than where I was.

Based on some new trade information that a nice chap in a bar lent me, I’ve got a new trade route in mind. Nice and circular too. I’ll be leaving as soon as they’ve cleared me for launch. Hopefully this will be able to make up for the upgrades I bought here.

Thank you, random stranger, for that glorious info! 3,000 credits of profit and for just my first jump of many! It feels good to have credits rolling in again. Perhaps I should seek out [REDACTED] when I return and give him something for that info.

I took a brief respite here in [REDACTED]. Tried to find that guy again, but he wasn’t in any of the bars or hotels on station. Perhaps he left. Either way, I’ve got an order for [REDACTED] to bring them several tons of coffee at quite a price. Thankfully, they’re on my route so I can easily handle the job.

When I returned to my new home in [REDACTED], I met a very kind Commander by the name of Loetmichel, who offered me a very generous amount of credits out of the kindness of his heart. This kindly old man has given me a new outlook on the state of the Galaxy, for if one such person exists, surely there must be more. I will take this lesson to heart and pass on this kindness if I can.

I like that thought. Perhaps when I am old and rich I will pass on generous gifts to people in need.

Thanks to Commander Loemichel’s generosity, I am now the proud owner of The White Whale, an excellent Adder specially adapted for running trade. Sadly, I had to give up The Black Betsy, but I hope that she will find a better home with whomever buys her.

I think that I will retire and sleep in The White Whale rather than the Hotel d’Jacques tonight. It will save me credits and let me get a feel for her.

Goldman, signing off.

Log: That fracking . I hope he flies into a goddamn sun! GRAAAHHH!!!!
*sigh* Commander's Log, entry number... uh... , I can't even remember anymore, he took my logbook too! Let's go with 400. I arrived at [REDACTED] station some scant few hours ago, having just turned in several quests for some of the Empire's higher-ups. Apparently some nearby systems didn't want to join the Empire, and so I had to go collect some rebel transmissions. Scratched my paintjob too, not that it matters anymore.

After I arrived and reported in, I was approached in the nearby bar by some charismatic character by the name of Lucien Starr. He and his copilot were looking for a faster ship, and they had heard rumors I wanted one with more cargo and weapons placement. Of course, I didn't even think twice on how they found that out, since I only mentioned it in passing to someone at the Empirical office. I attribute it to the multitude of drinks and the silver tongue of Starr.

Anyway, the point is they wanted my ship, the "Star Ranger" and I wanted a bigger ship. Hence they offered me their ship in trade. After a bit of deliberation, I asked to see their ship first. I have to say it looked rather pretty, with a shiny new paintjob in the Predator pattern, and some shiny weapon mounts. I asked to check out the inside, but they refused, saying they didn't exactly trust me having had bad experiences with some of the Pilot's Federation before. This should have been a red flag, but unfortunately I was to enamored by the shiny ship.

We negotiated that they would hand over a few thousand credits, since my ship did have a newer FSD, which they grudgingly accepted. We traded codes and I became the proud owner of what turned out to be a hunk of junk. Once inside the ship I was greeted by the acrid smell of burnt rubber, with exposed electrical wires everywhere. There was evidence of extreme thermal damage, and some unidentifiable stains in the seats (which were supposedly unstainable).

The repairs cost me most of my capital, far surpassing the paltry amount Captain Starr had given me. I had tried to get the 'Ranger back, but the duo had left the moment they had the codes. Cursing my luck, I checked the modules onboard and found more than half of the ones I had been told were here weren't. The last of my capital went towards getting the ship into a somewhat decent configuration. I took a job to get some of it back, and cursed again when what should have been a single jump would take me more than twenty.

And just to add insult to injury, on my syscheck, I discoverd the weapons may as well have been vestigial, since deploying them cut power from all but the most basic of controls. I'm slow, practically defenseless, and practically penniless. Hopefully I can find somewhere with a better power plant soon.

Log: This is an Addendum to previous log entry, number.. reset at 400.
So it's been a few hours since I left [REDACTED] Station, and I've managed to at least get a powerplant that can hold up to hardpoint deployment. I called in an old friend, Commander TM33z and he and I took on some interesting bounty contracts. Unfortunately our adventure in the inner rings of [REDACTED] was cut short by a wing of Vipers that decimated our shields and blew off my canopy.

If it wasn't for Rescue One, I'd be a dead man. I'm contemplating selling off the CS Eagle 5 and buying another Cobra III. The additional cargo space is great, but I still can barely jump between systems, and my credit balance is not so happy with me after needing to utilize a claim.

I'm gonna head deeper into Imperial Space tomorrow, perhaps Her Majesty's light will shine on me and I'll find a great deal on a new ship.

Log: Entry number 401. I've been staying at the pub for the past few hours, bemoaning my fortunes, when I was approached by a grizzled Imperial Navy Officer. Apparently he had just been gifted a Clipper for his service, and needed to offload his current ship. He didn't want to see her scrapped, so he offered her to me for a discount rate. Said something about when he was a Squire he got her, so he was merely passing on the tradition.

I leapt at the chance to get a better ship than the '5, gladly selling her off for scrap and purchasing the INV Wyvern. She's got her fair share of battle scars, but she's still in tip top shape. Even her engines seem to be eager to go back to work. With her improved jump range, my next target dropped from over thirty jumps to just under ten.

Speaking of which, I heard some rumors of an elite group of Imperial Pilots, called the 9th Legion. Apparently they were expanding, so I set off to their home system in [REDACTED], hoping to get in their good graces. The only thing they would trust me with at first were simple cargo delivery missions, but hopefully I can work my way into joining them soon.

Log: Okay, first off, this is entry 402, and man have I struck out. Once I applied for the 9th Legion, they readily accepted me, apparently glad to have more hands on deck. Within minutes of entering their Pilot's Mess, I was introduced to Wing Commander [REDACTED] who quickly got me settled.

After a few hours of 'meet and greet,' the Commander helped me optimize my ship systems and had me go and do some basic patrols, the usual post for a greenhorn such as myself. Man am I glad. I had barely begun my patrol when no less than three wanted ships appeared. My upgraded Wyvern outmatched them at every turn and it started one of the most profitable days of my life. Within hours I had more than twenty kills under my belt, including an Anaconda, though System Defense did help a lot with that one.

Needless to say I got a much needed boost in credits. If this trend keeps up, I'll have a shiny new Vulture by the end of the week.

Though I would be sad to see the Wyvern go... Perhaps I should keep her and use her as a cargo ship...

Thoughts for another day I suppose. Time to turn in, let's see how comfortable the Legion's bunk is.

Current Ship: "INS Wyvern" 7A-34T-57H
Log: Okay Entry 403... Well I lot has happened today. Spent a few hours of R&R after a late night patrol then an alert came through. Apparently a nearby system had fallen into war and the 9th were called in to sort it out. Cmdr's [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] led the mission, which was to eliminate marked ships in the CZ.

The 9th rewarded each pilot with a cash bonus for each confirmed kill, and I think I acquitted myself nicely, earning a cool 1 mil. Granted Cmdr [REDACTED] saved my bacon several times; one of the enemy pythons had locked onto my tail and breached my canopy, leaving a trail of plasma burns up the copilot's seat. Nothing I could do would shake him off. He knocked out most of my major systems, thrusters, shields, FSD. I had lost control and was startign the emergency reboot process when an explosion rocked my hull. The remnants of the python flew past as did Cmdr [REDACTED], a victory whoop coming across his comms.

Took me a few hours to get the repairs, and by then the mission was called a success. I celebrated in the local bar until one of my friends, Cmdr TM33z, sent me a message. He had gotten into trouble some 150ly away and needed support. I decided to help him and shot my way across the galaxy, nearly running out of fuel twice. Thankfully I came across a Main-Sequence star just in time to refuel, otherwise I'dve been boned.

Anyway, once onsite in [REDACTED] Station, he explained the problem over a beer. Apparently he needed to take out three separate generators in three separate systems. He had canvassed them and found that he needed aerial support to keep the heat off of him while he snuck past in an SRV.

The long journey and the bounty of credits he promised persuaded me to say yes, and next thing I knew I was taking fire from ground positions and desperately trying to keep my ship in one piece. Again. Thankfully the mission was finished quickly and we moved on. This time I had him take the support roll while i rolled in. Several tense minutes passed as I was questioned by the security personnel, while defense turrets trained on me and a Federal Python glared at me.

My story about needing rest and fuel apparently assuaged them and they let me into the station. One remote charge later and I'm driving out of there as fast as I can, Cmdr TM33z tryign to pull off the Python's fire and getting demolished by it shortly there after. Of course, me and my SRV were no match for the Python, and I was desperately dodging missile strikes while waiting for my ship to recall.

It was to no avail, I had rolled the SRV and there was a full volley on its way. In a last ditch effort I dived out of the vehicle and behind a rock just as it was hit by the missiles. I could feel shrapnel eat into my back and my suit spring a few leaks. If the python hadn't left in time for my ship to arrive, I would've died then and there. TM33z gave me a call shortly after I stumbled into my ship. He had ejected when his ship was demolished and he needed medical attention.

I set the autopilot to pick him up and collapsed onto my bunk.

When I woke up I was in a hospital bed at [REDACTED] TM33z sitting next to me with a wide grin on his face. Two of the three successful mission had netted a total of 7 mil creds, which split between us equaled out to 3 mil apiece and the rest to medical bills and repairs.

Which was totally worth it. Docs say I can leave tomorrow, so maybe we can finish that last mission. Though I am anxious to get back to Imperial Space, I'd rather not have the Feds come after me, especially after this stunt.

Sorry, but of old Earth nerd humor...

Anyway, today has been a long day. Probably the longest day I've had so far in my career with the Pilot's Federation. No sooner had I been discharged from the hospital than an emergency alert popper up in my comms. The 9th had been called upon to keep the peace in [REDACTED], and all active members were required to jump ASAP to help. Apparently a civil war had broken out. I regretfully told my Cmdr TM33z that I had to leave, and punched in the coords. How far was this emergency mission? 250ly from my current position. The Wyvern had a 12ly jump range. Needless to say the journey was boring yet nerve wracking.

However, when I and the rest of the wing I was assigned arrived, we were greeted with confusion. No such war had broken out (though they were getting close according to some) and no one had sent out a distress call. Lo and behold, some genius had taken the time to set up a civil war back in [REDACTED], next door to our HQ. Which was an additional 100ly from our location.

By the time the distress call was received and we arrived, the war was in full swing. Of course the Massacre Protocol was enacted and we were quickly dispatched to the various CZs to take on the threat. I was assigned into a wing with Cmdr Jimbazoid, Cmdr Haazenpfeffer, Cmdr [REDACTED] and Cmdr [REDACTED]. A few hours in we detected several Capital Class signatures and we were amazed when a Majestic Class Interdictor and a Federal Farragut Class arrived. We had no idea that the insurrectionists had Federal support or that the Imperial Navy had sent a ship out. We sent hailing calls to the INV Glory, only to find out too late it had been commandeered. It's main guns opened up on us as we entered an escort pattern, and Cmdr [REDACTED] and Cmdr [REDACTED] were forced to flee to avoid destruction and seek repairs.

We found out through the Farragut Class that neither vessel was with the Major Powers, and that the Imperial Society had requested the help of the mercs that ran it. Once the initial confusion was dismissed we got to work, spending a long hour desperately fighting off the INV Glory. Finally, we sent her packing, hopefully to be retaken by the Imperial Navy.

Of course, once the flagship was run off the rest of the combatants fled. I flew back to the nearby station to rest and repair, my hull having ruptured, forcing me to rely on my emergency oxygen to finish the fight. After today the Wyvern certainly proved her name and got several more battle scars to prove it.

And the nice multi-million credit bonus my wing got was certainly welcome too. I should have enough for a good upgrade soon, but which ship to get? Oh choices, I never thought you'd be so hard.

Goldman out.
