would you care to provide links to said polls? I've not heard anything of the like. the only things that I've heard along those lines are that females are the quickest growing demographic amongst "gamers" but that statistic is also including games like candy crush and clash of clans, and is full of misconstrued information.

I've read similar things, that "female gamers" are a large demographic, in terms of both numbers of people, and the amount they spend on gaming.

Though, I've also read that "the Sims" franchise has had a very, very, very large effect on those statistics. Because that DLC for those games runs into the thousands of £$.

But mostly being subjected to herassement and various other forms of behaviour that would be counted towards mean\bad or downright disrespectfull to either men or women often see mt ohappen quite often towards women in a very heavy manor and often seems to be "ok" for some odd reason.

I know many, almost more than guys gaming, but only a few actually choose to communicate outwards via VOIP's available with random people and some have chosen male characters in the games they play simply to not be in question or preasured in any way, and only communicate with people within guilds and such where you can easily notice its mature people and not the disrespectfull kind of folk.

Not to come through as a "only women matter feminist", but disrespectfull people in any regard are probably the cause of why many choose to play "alone" and not always like to even try to commmunicate or interact with many people in games often, pure guess that though

but you're right, there is a huge stigma about girls who play video games in general, but that's a conversation for another thread

In my own personal opinion, any other classification is neither based on reality, nor backed up by science. Luckily, my wife agrees with me - and she's a geneticist. Now, I cannot speak for sociological context but sociology has always been a bit of a pseudoscience anyway so I don't take its conclusions to mean much.

I knew few female gamers, two of them pretty dedicated (one I met in EVE, other in Silent Hunter III community), but overall - women have always been huge minority in games I was/am playing - which are usually associated with huge war machines, grand scale strategies and combat simulations.

I suppose that 50/50 ratio might be true if you count facebook games, browser games, Korean MMORPGs... stuff like that.
