Personal Solar Systems

heya FDEV ...

i wonder if you could sell us personal solar systems?

players could:
~ name them
~ choose location (to some extent)
~ choose a faction or no faction at all
~ lock them
~ make them public
~ store our ships there
~ choose system size, small, medium and large, extra large w/prices changing with size
~ choose types of planets
~ choose types of bases
~ we could purchase multiple systems
~ and more

anyways,
thanks for the game ...
its been fun through the years and still is today!

Won't happen would take far too much work and changes to the background sim to work. All systems, economy, markets and lots of other data are strung together in Elite Dangerous.

You can buy a fleet carrier which has some of those options.

Buy a FC and park it in some empty system you want as your own. It's what I did. Bugs to kill, VO, LTD, and Tritium to mine a few landable planets to screw around on..
I do have questions regarding how, where, when, why new stations pop up in game though.

Is that something that gets hand placed, or is it something that can be triggered via the BGS or PP.

It's hand placed. We've had it in the past for our then Player Minor Faction for a surface facility after a charity event, and also a space agricultural-type facility (not a dockable station). The stations and surface ports in Colonia were largely placed for PFs who completed the Expansion Initiative CG.

Thanks. I knew many were hand placed, but was wondering if, perhaps hoping, there was a BGS/PP trigger that also could cause stations/surface ports to come into existence.

Sadly not, though you can take them over as a minor player faction by using the expansion mechanic to a new system and BGSing it - but only existing ones. FDev might, in slower time, be amenable to CGs and the like which could result in one being created as a reward for hard work/charity etc, but there was a waiting list of years... don't know what it's like these days.

The last thing this game needs would be rich players buying multiple systems and lock them for others.

We got plenty of that in RL, so give us a break in the ED Universe.

Personal Star System construction: No.
It would be better to claim one (with FC for example dropping outpost structure on suitable planet) and then it will be FC owner task to supply it with colonists, equipment and materials until it grows self-sufficient.

Sadly ED is too focused on combat and all things like "balance" so I have serious doubts if we ever get things like that here. Even Odyssey from what I see in reviews and videos is mainly about combat.

I have parts I like here but also others that I find annoying. For now if someone wants system ownership, management, development, research and more meaningful exploration I would advise to look somewhere else.

P.S. It is possible to suggest CG that has good chance to be accepted - just look where stations are being build (there is one near Saggitarius A). I'm tempted to suggest colonization CG but right now I might be not able to participate in it.

Leaving the ability to lock systems to players is just a terrible idea and is never going to happen. Neither will adding factions to a system because it will interfere with the existing BGS. Imagine a CMDR from a rival player group strategically buying a system next to the system with your group's faction and placing their faction there. And this is just one relatively harmless issue with this idea.

If anything, stations in a system "owned" by a CMDR should work much like FC private enterprises without causing interference to the existing game world. If one is to avoid the fleet carrier littering fiasco, buying a system should also be extremely expensive, likely beyond what most CMDRs can afford. And if it's meant for a small portion of the playerbase, the "rich", then it's probably not worth the development time.

As much as I would prefer owning more assets in Elite, I think CMDRs should remain CMDRs and not be given an option to ascend to a PP level figure. IMO planetary basebuilding is a better and a more lightweight alternative.

and to add another small idea most people never think of...its an explorable universe so every system...EVERY SYSTEM most be open to exploration. if you tried to lock it then some not too friendly civilization nearby would come and unlock it, permanently. people think because they can have big ships they are a civilization themselves...not...a civilization Navy can throw a hundred ships into a battle at once, and reinforcements if they fail. so that pretty much kills player owned systems and their own civilizations. no one is that rich all by themselves.
