Pet Peeve #2. The cherry-picking "explorers".
You know the ones, you're (yes, you) probably one yourself, they ONLY scan the "good" objects and nothing else.
If you're exploring, you're obviously not under any time constraints.
Why not just scan ALL the objects in a system, aside from the belt clusters, those things are worthless.
It's a tad annoying to drop into a system with 15, to discover that only the 1 or 2 "good" ones have been scanned.
Be cool

I'm doing this now as I type. I have no desire to scan crap that will do nothing but make my journeys slow and painful.

It's kind of like going out to the pub, I don't feel like wasting time drinking all the beers on tap when I know the ones I like, Then I can go on my way to another pub for a change of scenery...

It's more polite to leave something for other CMDRs to discover and put their names on. I almost always only scan the easiest bodies unless there's an untagged earthlike. I'll grab them too. I leave others so other CMDRs can put their names out there.

My mommy taught me to share.

I have done this, I've done it today.

If I scan anything in a system I will generally scan all of it, if I'm travelling I'll usually just honk, scoop & jump but sometimes something catches my eye.
Today I was travelling at around -30 to -45 for a while, and passed through a Brown Dwarf system with a distant HMC (like 15Kls away) that looked out of place so I went & had a look. Didn't even scan the main star on that one because by the time I got to the HMC the star was out of range & I couldn't be bothered to go back.

I've spent weeks in one system, looking for volcanic activity, and sometimes I get bored & frustrated so I just jump away, system only partially surveyed.

And sometimes I want to be somewhere in a hurry but I spot a water world or other jewel in the night so I go look at that but the rest of the system is dull & I leave it.

I've been out for a year, and I'll scan what I please. Completeness is for others, I'm just out for the sights. Some are out for the money & don't stay out long, some plot economical routes & scan every snowball & pebble out there. Hey ho :)

I only completely scanned a few systems, which seemed particularly precious, like with a few water worlds or twinned terraforming candidates, etc. Why waste time scanning chaff when the next precious system may be just one jump away?

I've seen systems where each body has a different tag on it. I'll dutifully scan the next unclaimed one & leave the rest for the next Cmdr, it's like dogs peeing on a lamppost ;)

I usually scan bodies up to 1000ls away, unless they look boring, and only venture further into the system after really juicy targets. If someone wants the name on this or that ice ball, they can have it. :)
I also only scan A, O, B, WD and non-sequence stellar objects.

Yeah. I'm that guy. Sorry. :)

I will always do this.

Earth likes pay 600k
Waterworlds pay 300k, 600k if terraformable
Metal worlds 30k, 500k if terraformable
Class 2 Gas Giants 30k
Black Holes / SwirlyBlueBois 90k

Why waste my time on anything else? You're rushing to ensure no one else makes it back and claims the first discovered badge, which is an extra 50%.

If I see a mix of CMDR tags i'll add mine in however.

I have a better example. That proves your example is lame.
You're out for a walk. As you're going, you see up ahead some bills laying on the ground.
You get closer and find (using American denominations, as that is what I am more familiar with) a $100, a $50, a a couple of $20's, a $10, a few $5's and a scattering of $1's.
Are you telling me that you would only pick up the $100, because gathering up everything else would be a waste of time?
No, your money grubbing digits would be grabbing it all.
It's the same in the game.
Everything is worth something, except the aforementioned belt cluster. Those are the pennies. :)

I, by the way, scan everything but the belt clusters.
They are the only things that are not worth a partial credit even.
I want my name across the Galaxy. :)

If you were a millionaire, why bother with the small stuff. Same principle, leave the small stuff for others that want it. I have no use for it at all and doing so would make my 5 hour journey 45 hours long. No thanks...

The Dev's have said that up to this point LESS than 1% of the Galaxy has been explored in the game.
There are more than enough systems.
If they want to tag their name out it. All, they have to do is get out there.
On a 5 day jaunt, I was bored that week, I made 125 jumps into undiscovered systems.
Netted a very tidy some of credits got my name on hundreds of astrological objects and whole systems.
I just wish I had the chance to rename them.

The galaxy is big enough for everybody. You can easily find completely untouched regions if you want. Although saying that, I almost always scan either everything or nothing.

I actually quite like finding systems where somebody has only tagged a few bodies and "completing" the system with my own tags. Feels like leaving things tidier than I found them.

No. I disagree with everything you think.

1. I am often under time constraints when exploring, because I usually take famous explorers with me and there is a deadline.

2. I also like coming to systems like that and using them as a limited guestbook. Exploring everything in every system means that we can't have systems like that, which are systems that I like, because it is okay to share with other people.

3. Also, even if I am not on time constraints, I'll go out out looking for a particular thing, like when I was only doing a survey for Gas Giants with Ammonia Based Life (and Water and ELW ofc) and only scan planets that I thought would be that thing, because that is what I wanted to do.

I'm sure there are things that annoy you that I would find "odd".
I was raised to finish what I started.
Be it chores, school studies, work or hobbies.

Fair enough, but ultimately its going to be an exercise in futility isn't it? I mean you will never be able to scan everything & certainly doubt explorers are going to change their ways to accommodate you.

I'm out in Formidine Rift right now, but if I stopped and scanned everything I would still be 10k lys from where I wanted to explore even after 10+ hours of trip out here. For me my goal is to get out here and see the sites, that I would likely never 'finish what I started' out to do if I stopped and scanned absolutely everything. My goals do seem to differ from yours, but regardless there is always going to be time constraints on such matters.

On a side note.
Has anyone else noticed that some of the "moons" seem to be spinning in the system map?
I'm reading and replying while traveling the Blue Star Path (only going through systems with Class A & B stars, I like the blue lighting) to Sagittarius A*.
And, in a few systems I have noticed that some of the moons in the system map are spinning.
