Petition: Save Arena (CQC)!

Greetings Commanders!

As you all know, FDev have stopped working on Arena, after they had other commitments such as the new Planet Coaster and Elite: Dangerous itself. The player-base in Arena has become scarce, due to the lack of features and the outdated matchmaking system. There are some Elite communities that organize friendly duels, but getting enough people can be an issue. PvP events in Open Play or PG is also tricky, depending if your ship blows up or you have to pay a hefty repair cost.

So I have created a petition for FD to revive the gamemode, along with some key features that they can implement to improve the experience of friendly PvP. Features mentioned in the petition are:

  • The ability to import your ship to Arena, without any rebuy costs or worries.
  • A server browser should replace the current matchmaking system, as it can be sometimes hard to find other players around the world.
  • Engineered, Un-Engineered and Mixed filters should be available when creating or finding a match. Competitive matches should also be taken in consideration.
  • Better payouts for matches. Competitive matches could have even higher payouts, as they are more challenging and rewarding.

The petition is currently at 100, due to limits change.org have for standard petitions. Also thoughts, ideas, and feedback is welcome and taken in consideration for the petition, as the above are just some examples (but key) features needed for Arena. Let's hope FDev revives Arena to its full potential. :)

Fly Safe, Commanders!

I'll just copypaste my post in Reddit cause I am lazy :p

Absolutely not, for these points. Arena is separated from the main game, and it should be still separated. Engineers and ships from the main game should have nothing to do with the CQC. It's meant to be a fast paced action game, and that's what it is now. A skill-based arena game, where the skill matters way more than the grinding.

About everything else, I wrote some suggestions in this thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...tions-thread?p=5204687&viewfull=1#post5204687

Last, I remind you guys that we CQC guys set up a public Discord server here, where we coordinate together so it's easier to find matches for everyone (link in my signature)

To be honest, I'd like CQC to get some love, in the form of moving it to the main game, as a "telepresence" style mechanic.
Search for matches, host matches, BYOS (Bring Your Own Ship) matches, stock/preset ship matches etc etc.
Just hop in and out as you please. But has no bearing on the live game.

As you all know, FDev have stopped working on Arena

Have they? From 2.3 patch notes.

Fixed a soft lock on entering CQC, in which the non-authority on a destructible environment object never receives the replication that sets its kinematic item
Fix avatar assert when loading into a second CQC deathmatch
Fixed a softlock that happened after dismissing an error dialog in CQC
Xbox One: Accept a CQC invite with only the launch chunk installed
Audio: Fixed errors on installations/CQC
Make sure we wait for the loading screen to be ready before entering it when entering the CQC menu, this fixes an assert when the loading screen activates after the destination location is live
Fix crash in the inertial camera simulation when in CQC
Fix crash when entering CQC caused by the system map trying create the system map object store which doesn't work in CQC
Fixed low-resolution cockpit on loading into CQC matches

CQC

Rebalanced capacitor and charge rates to be the same across the different ships
Make sure we wait for the loading screen to be ready before entering it when entering the CQC menu, this fixes an assert when the loading screen activates after the destination location is live
Fix an error when accepting an invite from someone who has already joined a game
Fix an issue with the CQC default player starting params getting modified
Fixing flipped hit bubbles for CQC Empire Fighter hardpoints and adjusting other hit volumes to allow them to be triggered a bit easier

At least they are keeping up with the bug fixes. Its obviously not a priority for them at the moment, and no amount of votes on change.org is going to change that. There are much bigger fish to fry.

Nope, drop it like a rock and take that rank out of the main game.

It was only put in as an attempt to placate all the complaining from some of the community about commander killing in the main game. The idea was to ring fence some of the PvP action....but guess what....many PvP Cmdrs dont want an equal fight so they stayed in game picking targets they know they can destroy without much effort.

FD should have put the effort into an effective crime, punishment and bounty system instead as many pointed out at the time, and still point out.

Hopefully the next item to be removed will be powerplay...the half hearted place holder to make the galaxy look alive in some way.

Since multicrew is going to utilise some sort of matchmaking to find ships to join (unless I am entirely mistaken), it would be nice to have the option to queue for CQC from the main game using a similar system.

Also credit rewards probably need to not be absolute tat. Sure not everyone plays just for the credits (ask any explorer!) but you'll have a hard time convincing someone that likes earning millions in conflict zones to come shoot at fighters instead for a bit and earn enough credits to barely cover their next refuel.

Lastly, stick the Taipan in there. :)

As it is right now, CQC is a completely separate game. They need to implement it into the galaxy, as other people suggested:

- Let us queue up in the multicrew tab.

- Add support for CQC community goals.

-Integrate it in the BGS (play in the name of a faction, and that faction will get fans aka influence).

Let it die.

No, kill it with fire, and then spread the ashes to the far corners of the Earth.

Then repurpose the unused CQC ranking into a ELO-like ranking to reflect how capable a Commander is when fighting another member of the Pilot's Federation, which can then be used to determine rewards for legal combat, and punishments for illegal combat. Assuming, of course, that Frontier finally implements a karma system, the second tier of their original crime and punishment proposal, and actually decides to make PvP combat meaningful in this game.

The only way to fix Arena is to fully incorporate it into the base game and offer missions for playing and winning matches. There should also be methods to save ships earned in Arena and use them as deployable fighters that you otherwise couldn't get in the main game alone.

I'm all for improvements to CQC, but I started playing because engineers sucked the fun out of the main game's PvP. If engineers ruins CQC too, there's no more space adventures for me.

Pretty much this ^^^^^^.

CQC is slowly dying as a stand alone game, just put it out of it's misery and move it into the main game. Frontier should have done this from day one, but they needed carrot for the xbox players on release.
