Petition to give us control over the FOV on the VR screen mirror for recording

Hi!

I want to drum up some support.

Currently, Elite Dangerous renders a mirror to the screen for us VR users. This is nice, but... the image is cropped down so severely it's very limited in its use.

You see, I'd like to start streaming/recording some VR play, but the image that results is zoomed in so far that you can't see the whole HUD on screen even if I'm holding my head still and looking straight forward. Plus, the more it's zoomed in, the more the head motions of the player are kinda "amplified" to the viewer, which is uncomfortable for the viewer.

What I would really love, is if Elite would actually just mirror the ENTIRE render from, from one of the eyes, to the screen, and leave it up to me to crop it down and deal with any rendering distortion. I would also have plenty of "extra" material to work with if I wanted to apply some image stabilization in post, to further smooth out the video for viewers.

Better yet, would be a way for me to just have a slider where I can adjust the FOV of the crop, depending on the use case.

I don't think this would take a big effort to implement, considering earlier builds of the game did in fact have a whole eye rendering to the screen.

I think this would be a notable Quality of Live improvement for us VR users, and would help us start making some of our own player content to put out in the world, and show people that there are a lot of us around, and it's great!

That post is completely out of date, all those options are now usable directly in the Graphics settings, in the "display" sub-menu.

The problem is that they don't allow you to adjust the FOV of the capture. The resolution is independent from that. You can increase the resolution all you want but you still have this horrendously zoomed-in view.

The post you referenced is debug stuff from back before they actually implemented the Oculus 1.0+ SDK, and there was no screen mirroring at all. As you can see, the post is from 2014. No longer relevant.

.. Except if you skip to the recent pages, you'll see it still works, and the guys who like to stream use it to capture great HD quality video / stream...

You're welcome!

Thank you! Yeah bummer that that's buried deep in a 2 year old thread that starts out not-really-relevant, so kinda hard to fine. Appreciate the link.

Looks like the situation can be improved, but it's still not optimal/adjustable, but it's a step in the right direction
