Phoenix Point (the real new X-com) - have we posted this yet?

So i just saw some game play from the pre-alpha and already i'm 'feeling it' in a way the Fireaxis XCOMS never really moved me (some of the mods improved things).

And best of all (for me) is that it will be on GOG (as well as Steam). Looks great so far, and i can't wait for this version of one of my favourite games of all time (Original X-com (and more recently Open X-com)).

There are so many new X-COMs, I can't keep track of them.

Anyway, does anyone remember a game called Incubation? It was very similar to X-COM, great gameplay and very tense, I loved it. And its sibling, the Battle Isle series - I wish there were something like it right now.

Like i mentioned, X-com is one of my all time favourite games (well the original version is, not so much the follow-ups). I've played most of them down the years, except those 2000 era 'UFO' series (i want a base and management layer), and if i do play something these days it is Open X-com.

As for the highly popular 2K reboots, well they feel a little like the Star Trek and Star Wars reboots to me, where the originals they are based on i find still just much more satisfying, even with the ropey 90's era GUI and old-school graphics.

X-com, Elite and Civilization have been my main gaming staples since they came out (these days Open X-com, FFED3D and modded CivIV) and it is great to see the original creator of X-com carry on his version of the game, i just need to keep an eye on GOG for when it will arrive.

Mine too. Although I think the Firaxis ones are terrific too. Slightly less RPG-ish, but I think they're tactically a lot deeper. Much prefer the strategic level of the old ones though.

I notice that Phoenix Point's newer interface has borrowed quite a lot from its own successor.

The original XCOM is one of my all time favourite games.

The reboots by Firaxis are also amongst my favourite games.

This Phoenix Point game looks quite interesting, although, I'm not a huge fan of how the mutant alien thingies look.

Looking forward to seeing more. The XCOM reboots lacked the base building i was hoping for. I do wonder if PP will have it.

Xenonauts is also quite good, but it's not really capturing my interest enough to keep playing, probably because I get bored before the story kicks off (if it ever does?).

Always wanted to like the XCom games and initially i start off liking them. Then invariably they hit a a very steep difficulty curve some hours in and it just depletes any desire to play them again. So some months after release they get uninstalled and consigned out of my favourite menus to be forgotten.

Until I buy the next one.

The trick to XCOM (all of them) is focus on research and manufacturing weapons first, then armour.

Once you can take down the tougher bad guys, you can focus on making them less likely to take you down.

But having a semi invincible soldier with a BB gun doesn't get you far.

With the remakes, you also need to stop the panic/avatar project as much as possible. Everything else is secondary.

Apart from hilarious and monumental catastrophes on the first mission (which ends the game), I've never actually lost the game.
The last mission in XCOM2 is a tough one though. Still only lost 1 soldier though!

Hmmmmm... Now I fancy a replay... With mods!
