[PICS] Furball Space Programme

I've been messing around taking videos from the alpha, and using Quicktime to go through frame by frame to get the right shot :p.

EDIT: something has put a bunch of yucky compression artifacts all over them :p! They aren't like that in game though.

EDIT 2: spoilered to appease alien :)

One of my pet hates on forums is when people post HUGE pics.
I hate having to scroll sideways to read text of look at pics, which is why I always resize pics to 800x600 if I am going to post them on a forum. If you must post HUGE pics, may I ask you to you spoiler tags? (not just you specifically, but anyone in general ... thank you in advance)

Having said that, they are nice pics. The "yucky compression artifacts" you mention, probably won't be noticed in the game (but I think you might notice them more now, as they are bothering you. Remember, you can choose to not let it bother you).

An alternative, and my preference, is to use a hosting site that supports thumbnails which quite a few do. I use photobucket for this.

They probably _are not_ in the game, but are the result of the video software. Most video recording software does not record the video as perfect still images for every frame. If they did, the videos would be unmanageably big. In most programs, you choose the frame capture rate (e.g. 30) and then separately the "key frame capture rate" which is something less than 30 per second. These key frames are the only ones that may approach regular screenshot quality.

If you have a tremendously powerful computer / video capture software, the situation may be different, but most of us will have to settle for 1 or 2 key frames per second.

Mind you, my experience is limited and I speak with the authority of partial ignorance. :p

Did a small test with FRAPS & VirtualDub.

FRAPS footage seems to be lightly compressed - 23 seconds of 1920x1080@60FPS takes ~1,56 GigaBytes disk space, opened that in VirtualDub & saved as uncompressed AVI, that takes ~8,28 GigaBytes.

VirtualDub shows every frame of a FRAPS recording to be a keyframe, and saving one random frame (FRAPS original) doesn't show any readily apparent compression artifacts.
