Newcomer / Intro Pilfer missions?

If the action of pilfering is illegal in most systems (which I support wholeheartedly!) how do the mechanics work?

I'm guessing you will get a bounty in the system where you perform the pilfering therefore effectively locking you out of that system for a week?

I'm just confused with the relatively small payments I'm being offered how this could be beneficial.

Thanks.

You never get locked out of a system whatever illegal actions you perform. You can just get attacked by system security ships when you're wanted and they scan you. As long as you evade their scans, you can even still dock in a station where you're wanted.

After your bounty expires, nothing forces you to pay the fines either, so as long as you don't die, it does not necessarily impacts the payouts of illegal missions you may perform.

Mostly correct. Factions that are hostile to you won't give you permission to dock at their facilities.
Other than that, you're right. A little bit of bounty won't hurt you if you're quick.
