Horizons Pilot rescue missions, havent seen one since Engineers

Pre engineers I used to go on to a planet surface and drive around picking up stuff and collecting minerals, occupied escape pods etc. A lot of the time I would return to a base to sell off this stuff, but I first would go into the mission board to check if anyone was looking for a downed pilot or maybe some minerals etc. But since 2.1 I have not had a chance to hand in any of these missions. I always have to sell on the commodities market.

[tinfoil hat]It's almost like the game knows what you have in your hold and will not make available missions for things you already have...just unlucky perhaps?[/tinfoil hat]

Another reason I wonder this, is the first thing I did after 2.1 was mining. Again, pre 2.1 I would return from a mining session and first go into the mission board and check if anyone wanted any of the minerals I had mined, usually you would find some one. Since, 2.1 I have not had the opportunity to do this once, always have to sell to the commodities market.

I'd be interested to know others experience with this.

I too have noticed that those particular mission types that were always exclusive to planetary bases, and tended to focus on LOCAL targets on the surface of THAT actual planet, those have indeed disappeared from the new mission boards as far as I can tell.

However... If you are looking for that specific type of mission where you locate and gather up occupied escape pods, those are still being offered by the many of the mission givers at any particular base. Thing is... These ARE NOT LOCAL targets but instead are basically like any other planet side salvage missions with the actual crash site/salvage site being located in another system. Obviously, the musical chairs technique you had been using previously with the various minerals and cargos won't be possible with these other versions.

If your primary motivation was to maximize your income via the mission rewards, read on! :)

I do the new type all the time. Although they are not local targets, in terms of actual mission reward/payouts, these are far more lucrative in my experience. While the previous local versions tended to pay in the high 5 figures or low 6 figures, the current non local versions can pay as much as any other planet side salvage mission which for me tend to be in the mid to high 6 figures, and even the occasional 7 FIGURE reward amounts!

These mission now read like rescue an occupied escape pod on some planet. The mission will guide you to the planet and once dropped to normal flight over surface to the location with the pod.

With the last one I did I got a mission update that some intel reported pod malfunctions and I better return the pod in the next 30 minutes, otherwise the inhabitant won't survive. Timer was fair so I made it, no idea what happens if one delivers this too late.

I think some stuff might have been taken out as a (hopefully) temporary fix for some of the issues we were seeing. The infamous Surface Rush missions were fatally bugged in beta; scanning the nav beacon or doing a system-wide honk would give you a bodiless message from the mission sponsor but not give you an actual location to fly to. This was reported multiple times in the bug forum, acknowledged as under investigation, but since the full version dropped I haven't seen a single mission of this type. I welcome any evidence to tell me I'm wrong, but it looks as though they were simply removed from the list of available missions.

As for pilot rescue, I don't recall seeing any of those either but then they weren't my favourite mission type and I've not been looking for them. At least you can now "sell" randomly rescued pilots as salvage on the commodities market. It seems a bit odd, but not nearly as odd as having to shift them on the black market.

getting there in the new ETA would earn you some bonus cash. missing the new deadline means losing the extra cash and getting a sourpuss message from your hirer

for a mission worth 1.5 mil, the bonus is typically about 120k

Yes, pre 2.1 I ran quite a few "One of our Pilots is Missing" and locating the crash nearby. Not seen one at a surface Mission Board since 2.1, either.

They were simple missions, but an interesting fill in for times when I stopped at a surface base for some odd transport mission. Grabbing a quick 20 minute SRV rescue mission was a nice break while I was down there. Sometimes got some other free cargo to boot.
