Newcomer / Intro Pilot Training Travel Can't find the docking pad. Help?

Hi. I've targeted the station but there doesn't seem to be an entry port. No pads are lighting up on the outside of the station either. Or they are hidden pretty well.

What am I missing?

Station or outpost?
If station you will see a blue 'letterbox'. Once you request permission to dock you get arrows on the station icon on the dash to show you where the entrance is. Typical strategy though is it faces the planet.

For Outpost its a bit trickier, fly close and look for the orange landing lines with the correct number you have been provided when requesting to dock.

What kind of station? space ports have them outside, spacestations are inside you have to look for a slot sort of like a mail slot also you need to request docking to get assigned a landing pad. Do the tutorials they should help or watch one of the videos

Just want to check that you've selected the Right hand panel, Contacts, select the station and request permission to dock

You're probably facing something like an Outpost, right? https://www.elitedangerous.com/galaxy/starports/

If you don't see your pad at first, fly around it to the other side of the squarish blocky looking section and you'll find it eventually.

Oh, sorry, I didn't read that you're on the Training Docking Mission.

The destination for this mission is a Coriolis-type (Cuboid shaped) station, IIRC. https://www.elitedangerous.com/galaxy/starports/

You want to find the square face that has the white blinking lights at the corners. That's the face with the port entry, or "mail slot" that you want to fly into to find your landing pad.

If you see a square face that has red blinking lights, that's the opposite side of the station.

After you request docking with the station, you will see the holo depiction of the station on your dashboard. This holo model comes with an arrow pointing to the side with the mail slot.

Also, as others have said, the mail slot on these and other stations always faces towards the planet.

congrats on figuring it out..... I have found that when doing an outpost and you exceed the time limit for docking, the lights go out until a request to dock is reinitiated. That can be irritating when you touch down and try to get to the hanger just as time runs out.... Here I am sitting on a pad, unable to do anything to get into the station and on the top of that, someone may be coming in for the pad you are sitting on. Time to gear up, get out, and request a new landing spot....

Another tip I don't think has been mentioned.

You know that little compass that you use to line up your planet when jumping? (just left of the temp readout) That also indicates the position of your pad when you have requested docking. Can be useful finding your pad on an outpost or inside a station (especially if it is one of the very first pads and you fly over it - compass will show you immediately that it's behind you)
