Community Event / Creation Pilots cockpit / chair project <3

HI, I gathered that I'd put up this early project of mine to public in here for discussions on DIY stuff and what ever <3

So this is the first rough test build for my pilot chair / cockpit project made from wood, screws and panels measuring 60cm x 20cm x 45 cm

The top of the armrest is sliding for ease of access to enter / exit the seat.

Future plans include
a) To build my computer inside the armrest on either side
b) Surround speakers built in the seat with feelgood subwoofer underneath the seat.
c) more building around the chair for controls and devices.

If anyone of you want's the designs etc I have a made a 3d designs in Unreal Engine 4 for you to enjoy ;)

Here is a screenshot of the Unreal chair <3

More to come in the near future... now DISCUSS! ;)

Like where you're going with this! The color scheme is quite nice as well, looking forward to seeing your progress!

And lastly the latest Unreal Engine 4 mock of the project.

Next in line

1) Control panel with buttons, switches, sliders name it I still have loads of connectors unused inside the Throttles BU-circuit.

2) SOME solution on how will I get the Keyboard nicely in there without having to keep it on my lap and transferring it to the table all the time.

3) a way to attach my Logitech WingMan Formula Force GP wheel without losing the nice pilots cockpit aspect in there.

4) Build houses, pull out ramps, lighting to the kids space station area.

5) build the platform with low wheels where to mount the stuff so it is easily stashed away to the corner, hanging from a wall or from a ceiling.

Any ideas?
I'd love the constructive and also admiring feedback here ;)

I love the design you have here. I've been dinking around drawing some ideas myself that actually came out somewhat similar to your project. As for the keyboard issue, I've been trying to figure that out myself. I think that the use of a small rolling desk or station that can roll over your legs might be the only real option.

It would only need to be a little wider than the seat of the chair but skinny enough to roll between the stick and thruster platforms. Something light weight would probably be all you needed (that is kind of the cheap approach though).

The other idea I had was almost like a holster for the keyboard on either of the arm rests of your seat. The only problem is that this will likely result in constantly lifting the keyboard out and setting it on your lap.

Hope that helped!

Looks very cool!

On the keyboard issue: you could have a hinged mount attached to one of the side arm rests that swings in over your legs when in use and away from you when you need to get out.
Another option would be one of those lamp/monitor stands you can position anywhere (6 DoF lamp stand??), like the Pixar lamp. They are a bit expensive though I think.

I thought the idea of a keyboard that swings down would be cool. But storage wise, would it not be in the way of your view if you had it out of the way? Then again...I guess you wouldn't be playing without the keyboard over your lap...so maybe I just answered my own question. Haha

Hi Fazerina.

The build looks really good.
I especially like the red colors and how they match your cases at the sides.
Anyways hope you get it to where you want it to be at.

I like looking at the home builds and the inventivity of people and how they get around any problems with the builds.
Its spot on mate.
Cheers

It's not cheating at all to buy ready made mounts at all.
I would've bought too if I could afford them.
But after that I'd still build the cockpit and consoles around them ;)
