I'm not seeing much talk about this after the livestream yesterday. But if I heard The Beige Cowboy correctly, he said that PvP murder now came with a universally applicable bounty, galaxy-wide.

Won't that help with the "rampant ganking?" If I pew n00bs for teh lulz, I can only dock in anarchy and lawless systems, right? So doesn't that help "civilize" civilized space?

Given that money is worthless in ED, using it as a punishment is pointless.

Yes, PvP murder will tack on a Pilot's Federation Bounty - there may be some exceptions for Power Play, but I'm not sure what the final outcome of that discussion will be.

HOWEVER...

A bounty alone will not stop someone from docking somewhere, nor will it particularly discourage billionaire commanders with nothing else to do from acting in the manner they have.

It's kind of like that $25 slice of cheese cake you eye on the menu - and when it shows up at your table, is thinner than a comic book and only 1/18th the size of the picture.

Money is only meaning full for a players early few months in the game.
Once they get large enough ship and do CGs and get higher rewards for kills and missions, it does become a little meaningless

A few mill doesn't hurt longer playing people. Last weeks CG paid out loads, although I do suspect this is to help all players with the many rebuys they will endure after the 26th.... thargoids will killing a few of us etc.

If the penalty was increased to make them pay for all the ships they murdered then this would be one hell of a large fine.

We hope you’re all excited for 2.4 The Return on September 26, I’m sure you’ve all seen the recent cinematic short video from last night’s livestream. I hope you are all as excited and terrified as I am for the update!

As you may know, in 2.4 there will be some new changes to pilots federation bounties and rebuys which Sandro has been discussing on the forums.

As Powerplay features consensual, player-versus-player interactions, this will provide exemption from Pilot’s Federation bounties and the ship rebuy penalty when entering into legitimate Powerplay PVP combat when 2.4 arrives. To ensure a smooth transition, we are going to un-pledge any Commander that has not participated in Powerplay on or around the launch of 2.4.

Any Commander with zero merits at this time will be un-pledged. If you wish to remain pledged, all you have to do is earn a single merit by this date.

This is a one-time effect; you are free to pledge again if you are un-pledged.
