Pilots Federation Safety Mechanisms

Just like in ancient civilization, there's still a hardwired part of human nature to prey on the weak and helpless, specifically to satisfy some sadistic pleasure even if it comes at a financial detriment (though many of my peers have argued that this setback is actually negligible in scale, meaning it fails to deter rogue behavior).
The designers of these ships have done great with ensuring the tools to minimize grief between pilots. But I have personally not seen any of these mechanisms used by those outside of the Pilots Federation proper, leading me to believe it is an exclusive benefit within their ranks.

So what specifically ARE these "Safety Mechanisms"? They have been featured on my own personal adventures when I've made unprepared contact with the Thargoid, as well as more secretive organizations. The first one I refer to as "The Panic Button", which normally functions on demand, yet detects hostile ships attacking...and that triggers a 15 second primer before it can be activated. That said, without any specific tampering of ship systems, there is a theory that can "hotwire the Panic Button", which requires some particularly fast keystrokes to pull off. Either way, worst-case, if a scary bogey can't prompt an insurance claim within 15 real seconds, you're as good as safe.

The second one I'd like to talk about is a much more preventative measure, simply described as a "Stealth Module". What it does is render you not so much invisible to the rest of the fellow Commanders...but more like you've phased out of existence. Paradoxically, that's only half-true as you can still communicate with anyone you please through normal text-based means.

Some that I've talked to have stated that using these devices is dishonorable, though honestly, I'd take every edge I'm allowed to in order to win...or worst case, survive.

The "panic button", also called the "mode shift device", opens a dimensional portal, shifting you and your ship into a parallel universe. The other universe is very similar to the one you previously inhabited, with all the stars and planets in the same places and even a bank balance in your name with the exact same amount in it, and empty ships exactly like the ones you owned in your previous universe, just sitting there waiting for you to claim them and fly them. The key difference between the two universes is the existence or non-existence of the person who was attacking you; they don't exist in the "new" universe at all, so you can fly away in peace.

Exactly how the portal generator can find an almost-exact-duplicate universe, and shift you into it, is a closely guarded secret. How the portal generator disposes of the "other you" in that alternate universe is also much debated by philosophers and theologians. There are rumours that the mode shift device occasionally malfunctions and deposits you into a parallel universe that's horrifyingly wrong and different (like one where the Thargoids have conquered everywhere and humans are extinct, or one where the "other you" is a mass-murderer wanted in a thousand star systems), but since the mode shift effect is not reversible - you can never, ever jump back to the universe you came from - there's no way to know for sure if these rumours are true.

Personally, you'll never see me use the thing. But then, the universe I inhabit has only one Pilot's Federation member in it, so I wouldn't really have cause to use it.

On a related tangent, there's a reason there are hardly long lines at starports. It's as if each and every starport has numerous duplicated copies floating around in quantum meta-space. Pilots have taken to using the slang term "instancing" to explain this phenomenon. A whole army could be gathered at one point of interest (such as whenever there's a "Community Goal" currently ongoing), yet even with deactivating all the safety mechanisms described previously, you may still see at most 2 or 3 different registered Commanders in the immediate area. Having any more will require a coordinated group effort specifically to come together in the same parcel of space.
