Pimax 4k?

I've been thinking about picking up a used Pimax 4k if I can find one reasonably cheap. I am going to upgrade my GPU this coming March so I don't want to invest in something too expensive or that, when the 8k or something equivalent becomes available I don't feel too bad about upgrading and the money I've spent on the 4K. Any tips, ideas? Good idea or bad?

My current system specs are in my signature.

if you can, try to find a Pimax 4k BE/B1 - IMHO it's better than the straight 4k for Elite - see my post about it on the 4k from yesterday - the trick will be finding one though

I have looked, I can barely find any info it let alone a new or used version of it for sale.

You might want to wait until Jan/Feb. I'm guessing that a lot of 4K users are upgrading to 5/8K and that's when the new headsets should arrive. I'll bet the 4Ks would be cheaper then (since there would be more on the market).

Unless you can find someone who has one and is willing to part with it, you're going to have a hard time. They sent them to GearBest (and maybe other sites) by mistake - I somehow ended up with one, and decided to keep it - it's actually not 4k, but it's better for gaming than the 4k is.

Pimax offered me a trade-in / recycling voucher for my 'set as part of the kickstarter. I decided to pass and keep it anyway. It's a good little headset

Gearbest UK has the Pimax 4k for sale...Hmmmmm, interested, how can i tell if it is the BE/B1 model? do they look different?

Thanks

Good idea.
I have the regular 4k not the BE version and with proper settings ED looks amazing, runs great but if you want more than 60 fps get other headset, for me 50-60 fps is great and dont casue any dizziness.
I also upgraded from gtx 970 to 1080 the difference is huge both in quality and performance.

You can’t actually “buy” a B1/BE if you specifically wanted to .. they were supplied to the online retailers by mistake and were made to fulfill a specific order they had.

I opted to keep mine. Pimax were happy to swap them out free of charge (because technically they have a lower resolution than the regular 4K) but they also have a OLED screen unlike the 4K - and a slightly higher Hz refresh rate (70 Hz)

If you were dead set on getting one, then I suppose you could contact Pimax via their forums and ask about getting one - but with the 8k this close, its much better to try to get one of these — if you have the GPU to drive a 4K (I would recommend a GTX1080) then you will be able to use the 8k as it takes a lower res image and up scales in the headset.
