Pimax 8k VR - is it click bait vapour ware? Or is it actually coming?

I'm a CV1 user, and I must admit I'm very intrigued by the idea of the pimax 8k 200° Field Of View kit:

But having been waiting on it for months now I'm arriving at the conclusion that it is little more than click bait vapour, has anyone else heard anything more on a likely release date for that kit? And whats your thoughts on it, I see a lot of mixed reviews on their "4k" kit (which is actually 2560*1440 as opposed to 4k = UHD = 3840*2160) mainly down to the lack of positional tracking and the awkward software set ups. I wonder will the 8k unit be a more polished experience, and full on consumer grade technology, or will it continue to feel like a beta / development kit?

What d'y'all think and are any of you planning on buying it if/when it is released?

There is meant to be a kickstarter, but I don't think it has happened yet.

Why start a KS for an 8k set. What is needed is a 4k set with positional stable tracking at 75-120 fps.

A high resolution Google cardboard does not interest me.

I believe the kickstarter is coming within the next couple of months, possibly within weeks. With an aim to ship by the end of the year.
I'm waiting for the reviews, how good/responsive is the headtracking, any issues with ghosting etc, although waiting for reviews might mean missing out on an early bird kickstarter deal....
