Pip math: Too hard for drunk Smecca.

One of my current builds is optimal with a 0, 3.5, 2.5 pip profile. Thats 0 pips in systems, 3.5 pips in engines, 2.5 pips in weapons. I have achieved this set up before SEVERAL times but have no idea how the hell I got to it.

I need math-smarter-than-drunk-smecca CMDRs to help me out. There's gotta be a link for this kind of stuff but I can't find it.

I think basically, if you move PIPs between 2 of them it will move a full PIP, and if you choose the 3rd then it splits and grabs half from each of the other two. Might be wrong too as I am going from memory when I was setting up such things in my Warthog profile.

Harder than it seems. Up, up, left, up, right, right, up, right is the first combo I stumbled upon which actually works, but it can most likely be optimised beyond that.

Four pips to SYS will double the shield strength by x2.35, so it's very important to have some defences when under fire.

Pips that I have in some scenarios:

ScenarioSYSENGWEP
Under fire but moving around.420
Under fire but returning fire.402
Turning quickly or chasing opponent.(2?)4(2?)
Firing while opponent moves. Only when not under fire.132
Firing, but with distributor-heavy weapons.204

Interesting,

In combat firing/fired on, 402

In combat chasing or running, 420.

Always try to keep 4 to shields, but if I'm ahead in an engagement will go 312 or even 222 in a wing.

It's constantly shifting, so trying to do halves on the run w/o presets isn't workable. I also use the sounds to cue me w/o looking at the HUD.

So many ways to skin the cat.

I'll try this out ASAP, and you're definitely right about it being optimised further. There's no way I was doing all that to get the pips right.

As to the others who recommend constant 4 pips in SYS. Yea, that's great for PvE in some scenarios. In PvP or against single NPCs I'm finding it much better to just never get hit. The fixed weapons meta makes "evasion builds" quite viable. Therefore lots of ENG and WEP energy.

You can shave one press off it with right, right, up, right, left, up, up. I think you're going to have to find somebody more clever than me to get it below seven though.

I think you're right, unless there's a way to get 1-3-2 in just 4 moves. From 1-3-2 I can get to 0-3.5-2.5 in just two moves.

(I commonly fly 1-3-2 so I figure this is how I was getting to the elusive one)
