Piracy, Cargo and Other Suggestions: Cargo retrieval, New mission types...

Hi all,

So i would just like to start off by saying what an exceptional job frontier has done on ED. and i cant wait to see how it develops.
I'm here to highlight some new changes and features that i personally believe would benefit Elite!

I would love to hear everyone's feedback, Please keep conversation smart. If you don't agree with something let me know why and contribute to the discussion. Don't just reply "That's dumb".

Collecting cargo from pirates.

So as it stands right now in elite, You kill someone "Wanted" and collect your bounty. But what happens if they have cargo on board and they drop it? Well simply either you scoop it as "Stolen" and sell it to a black market. Or you don't risk the heat and let it deteriorate into nothing.
While this system works, its doesn't make sense to me. Why let perfectly good materials go to waste?
Solution:
My idea is pretty simple, When you scoop up "Stolen" item's from someone which is "Wanted" they are marked "Retrieved" instead of "Stolen" and can be "Forfeited" to "Federation" and "Empire" controlled stations for a percentage of their market value.Resulting in positive rep with that faction. This keeps items in the market circulation instead of just being destroyed.
Now you may ask how do we incorporate this into the Lore of ED, I mean how does the station know if your item is "Stolen" or "Retrieved". My solution is that canisters now record data and have a verification number. What ship they have been in as well as stations. (Ships could have registration numbers, but I'll get to that shortly). Canister P33341325 Platinum shows it has been at station X and was brought by ship Y and in transit recorded that ship Y came under attack was destroyed and picked up by ship Z. Ship X destroyed Ship Z and retrieved the cargo.
As well a new module could be introduced that could scan for the whereabouts of cargo making it possible to take back cargo that was taken from you as well as complete missions that ask you retrieve stolen cargo where you have to track pirates. This could also introduce a new play style of retrieving and forfeiting stolen goods perhaps the module could also scan for stolen goods in the local area. Forcing players now to approach combat with pirates a bit differently. Aiming for the cargo bay now has its benefits!

Canister Forgery Module:

With the introduction of the canister verification a new module could be introduced for pirates. Now you can remove the "Stolen" or "Retrieved" status of your cargo. of course this is very powerful and a few suggestions to keep it from being "OP" is to make canisters are only forged while the module is equipped meaning if you take the module out they will revert to their marking, as well as depending on the class and rating of the module the amount of cargo you could forge would be limited. Also this module would have to be relatively expensive to keep it balanced.

Ship Registration:

Viper: V(Player code)(The number of that ship i own)
The V obviously stands for "Viper", My player code would be persistent, And the last digit would be the number of that ship i own so say this was my second viper it would be a 2
Example: V344rtt2

Ship Tracker Module:

Now with registration numbers it could be possible to track an individual ship. Say you had a bit of a tussle with someone but he got his A## out of there before you had time to finish him off. Maybe with the tracker you could track him down and finish what you started at a later time. Obviously it would be up to the player to record their registration number. or perhaps an option could be added to save it to a database. But this could create a sense of rivalry between players. The range of the scanner/tracker would depend on class and rating, So it would be possible to jump far enough away that your hunter couldn't track you anymore. And perhaps this would have a large cool down in order to make sure its not super easy. This would be an ideal tool for Bounty Hunters for tracking those massive bounties.

Radio, User Music:

I have heard suggestions of radio stations for systems but I'd love to play my own music, sure i can just throw some music on windows media player and play the game, but i think it would be awesome to navigate the radio in game, playing my own music as well as having the music react to the environment such as my ship taking damage i think it would immerse players much more!

Anyway these are just a few suggestions i have thought of during my sleepless nights and 20hr sessions playing ED.

Once again well done Frontier these are absolutely SOLID foundations to keep building upon and it's awesome to see you guys doing just that, the game is spectacular as it is, and i can wait to see where you take us.

Happy Hunting, Oh and a merry Christmas
