Piracy: For the verbal bandits

I've often said that Elite is everything I wished EVE was.

Two quick examples:

Flying
EVE Online = click in space and pretend to fly
Elite = Sit in a cockpit, with a stick and actually fly

Piracy
EVE Online = killing players gets you stuff to loot
Elite = killing players gets you nothing but a bounty on your own head

Whilst I'd like to be able to form my money-making career around this, I'm also happy with just the bounty. I haven't yet looked at how exactly the bounty amount is formed, or how NPCs react to people with bounties, but the idea of possibly getting onto someone's wanted list is something I could even aim for.

It also brings up the question of having multiple characters active for different things. Normally skills/builds would be in question, but this time just for different bounties.

As far as I can tell, ship to ship communications isn't even part of the game yet (which I find hard to believe..). Really the only way to interact with another player is to shoot or annoy them... Am I missing something here? I'm not sure why this is even an MMO in the first place..

I'm playing in open as an unshielded hauler, and tbh I'm looking forward to my first encounter with a pc pirate, but unfortunately I don't think it will happen soon or go well for the following reasons:-

Escaping interdiction is far too easy, the only times I've been pulled out is when the bugged escape vector goes screwy, or when I've submitted just to see what happens.

The other problem is that when you do drop out, it's always some psychopathic Ai griefer who starts filling you with laser from the off. This kind of pre-programs you to run first, think later.

I'm doubting I will even notice it's a pc pirate before he blows me out of the sky for not adhering to his unread commands.

From videos on YouTube I've seen people PM others.

Ok great! I was read in earlier post that ship to ship wasn't in the game. Is there a system chat or anything like that where you can broadcast messages throughout a system?

You can have six player voice chat. No system wide comms because any chat that is 'public' so to speak, ends up as a cesspool...

Its easy to see that many of us are coming straight from New Eden: as all of us know there is no quitting EVE Online, but maybe we can replace it.

One of the main things that attracted me to EVE (or any MMO) was the ability to legally (or illegally) take part in different kinds of piracy. Now so far its very obvious that stealing someone's cargo is all well and fine, almost welcomed; but my question:

What are the limits of scamming?

Example: If I tell someone to drop their cargo, or i'll destroy their ship. Once they drop their cargo, can I still blow them up?
Can I tell someone an item's worth is 100x what it actually is?
Can I ask to borrow an item, and not give it back?

I know not all of these can really apply to the game just yet, but I assume they will more and more with each update.

I'm still quite new when it comes to the Frontier forum, so forgive me if I'm asking about incredibly easily accessed information.

Thanks,
Samu

Don't want yet another Jita thank you, but if there ever was a system like it in ED, might be fun to burn it all, now and again ;)

To your Questions: 1: Yes you can, but only once. after that he will put you on ignore and tell all other traders to do the same, effectively making them invisible to you.
2. Yes, sure you can, but there is no player to player trading so you can tell them all day long how much your fancy laser is worth, since you cant sell it to him.
3 No.

On a side note: This is, as some people already have told you, not EVE. There will be plenty of ways to prevent scamming.
