Piracy,.. Is it worth it?

Is it worth taking to a life of piracy? I'm currently trading between stations and turning a fair bit of profit but wouldn't mind trying a different path. Trouble is that I can easily outrun pirates when they attack by speed boosting and jumping out of there. Can pirates ever actually catch anyone that uses this tactic or do you just have to settle for those that don't run?:S

Try going to Nav beacons, shooting at wanted trader ships and picking up the cargo they drop, then go to an anarchy world and sell it. As long as you don't get scanned, you have no bounties to wrry about, and it can get pretty lucrative at times (be especially on the lookout for slaves)

The pirate ship AI right now is pretty toothless in most cases. This is because it is slow to react to you running away and it doesn't power manage properly. I am sure this will be fixed.

I find pirating NPC ships to be slightly less profitable (for the time it takes) than looting free-floating cans, but it's more fun and you find more interesting commodities.

I reset my save a while ago and now make my way by only illegal means (piracy and looting) and I find it much more enjoyable than trading.

Currently flying a Sidewinder (for the Buckyball) with about 270k credits in the bank. All the small and medium ships can be used for piracy with good effect, and the Cobra is especially good for just flying to a random system and wandering around shooting things and finding stuff.
