Piracy; it's hilarious.

So today, I was in Hernovacle's compromised NAV beacon, and some pirates opened fire on a trading vessel. I tried to save it, but I couldn't.
Oh well.

So after it lost its cargo, and exploded, I picked up some of the remnants. I got a hold of 3 tonnes of Gold, a small but worthwhile haul seeing as I did none of the work.
But this isn't about me getting the gold. It's about the pirates who scanned me afterwards.
I'll quote a few;
"I GUESS I'll fight you over what you have" (2 sidewinders, I slaughtered them)
"WOW, I HIT THE MOTHERLOAD!" (I jumped out before he could attack me, but I had 3 gold. That's the motherload to these people?)
"Y'arr, that ship be carrying a mighty fine haul" (nothing to say on this)

Thus, I've come to the conclusion;
The NPC pirates, are hilarious. I almost don't want to shoot at them, and instead laugh.
But the bounties on top of the merch are so worth it.

For a sidey pilot 3 tonnes of gold IS the motherlode lol. He has to go home & sell it after that lest his paper space plane be blown up too...

Those boys are keen alright. You gotta give them extra points for effort [yesnod]

EDIT - It's also fun to just go in loaded with shields, armour and collectors. Try and grab as much cargo as you can without fighting anyone.... and make it out alive!

I agree OP, the NPC pirates operate on a weird level of meta,
spawning into your instance knowing you got hot stuff on board and
are suicidal to pirate even a single ton of biowaste, shouting:
"I want it, i want it all!"

Can't have enough cow-chaff onboard to appeal to your fellow pirate NPCs!

Remember your beginnings. If you are in the base Sidey, 30K Cr IS the motherload alright.

LOL I had an NPC pirate do the usual hand over your cargo script I only had 1 ton of cargo, can't remember what it was but I'd "found" it after assisting a trader taking down a pirate further out in the system.

I decided to take my chances so fired a few shots at him, took his hull down nicely but the he got me back down to 10%. Nothing to loose at this point I carried on. I got a couple of shots on target, the he took me down to 7% so I decided to dump the cargo and make a run for it. I jettisoned it and the dumb ass flew into the cargo pod and blew up.

So I went back to the station got repaired and went back out again. NPCs can be funny and sometimes just dam annoying.

You've got to admire the guts of the Sidewinder NPC who took one look at my Cutter and stated "The bigger they are, the harder they fall". Sidewinder guy, I salute you. Then vapourise you 5 seconds later.

One of these NPC nutters said that to me.

Then he opened fire on me.

Right outside a station.

Inside the no-fire zone.

You can probably guess what happened next.

I wish I could talk to the poor sods. "Wait, you want to pirate all my limpets?"

Wait don't kill me, I will send you all my cargo..... I will send you my missiles first then my gold.

3 tons of gold in a sidey. I remember back when there were only Unidentified no Strong Signal Sources, may players (myself included), got ambushed by the 3 Elite Anacondas because the USS starts with 3 tons of Gold just floating there waiting to be scooped. As soon as you scoop the first one 3 Anacondas appear (since has a scaling alternative added with a mere 5 Vultures). On chat, the lead pirate says something like "I cannot believe that worked!".

So its not just the NPC pirates that are a bit dense .... >cough> players <cough>/

Sidewinder: [After it interdicts me] Give me all your cargo and everything will be okay.

Me [strapped to the nines battle-Python]: Uh... I don't have any cargo. Or, um, cargo space.

Sidewinder: Prepare to die!

[Sidewinder explodes almost instantly in the face of 2 Large Beam turrets, a Large PA, and Medium Missile Rack]

Me: The real Dark Souls starts here... I guess? I didn't know Sidewinders could have 5-digit bounties on them.

Even the base NPCs are funny and contradictory.

[Morgan Depot] "Your presence will not be tolerated, enemy"
[Morgan Depot] "Docking request granted"

They even refuel my SRV and restore my shields.... While the base skimmers are shooting at me, on the pad.

To OP :

I agree, the other night I was bounty hunting in Hi-REZ with my FAS, and a pirate eagle approaches me, scans me and sees that I have no cargo.

He then ask me "how do you even make a living? "

I wish I could have asked him back, "do you really want to know" :D ?

Before blasting him to kingdom come that is.
