Piracy mission: A weird outcome

Ahoy there,
yesterday i took on a simple piracy mission, going for 36 tons of cargo.
After jumping to the target system and locating the mission USS (no faction, no state),
i was able to disable and rob the ship of the mission cargo.
I dodged the police and didn't kill the target, as i was just paid to grab the cargo.
When i returned to the port where i took the mission,
i had a 10k bounty of that faction (which didn't own the target or operate security in the target system)
on me.

Now i was able to complete the mission from the MB, but i am locked out of the station,
due to that bounty coming from nowhere?
That is weird, i am pretty sure i wasn't scanned either.

Edit: I double checked, doing this mission yielded an interstellar bounty with the feds not a bounty with the faction,
as the mission's station is tied to the feds, that is what locks me out.
Why the interstellar bounty though? It was an assault and robbery, no murder on my end.

Fix this please.
Had a similar experience?

Don't all bounties come from the associated superpower (or are independent)? You'll see this when you try paying it off that it's for the Federation, not the minor faction. Devs did this as a workaround for a bug in the April 2018 update and it hasn't been properly fixed unfortunately.

Nope i did not accrue any federal bounty before doing the mission, although i did hunt ships of the governing faction of a system,
which is tied to the feds. Only this mission gave me a superower bounty.

Ok, see what you mean now. That's a new one. If you've not got a bounty with the controlling faction of the station you've docked atyou should be fine. Something definitely seems to have gone wrong here.

Assault is a bounty, and any bounty can become an interstellar one if you have enough, err, "priors" with a superpower[1]

Interstellar bounties are issued when fines and bounties for factions aligned within a superpower become too high. They are valid in any jurisdiction governed by that superpower or their associated minor factions.

You'll need to go to an IF to clear it.

Note: Interstellar bounties are superpower-wide bounties (e.g Federal, Imperial or Alliance) and are different from Pilots Federation Bounties (for PvP crimes), which is where you might be getting confused re: "No murder on my end"

[1] Although I believe that's bugged, and the game tracks all bounties for the purposes of whether or not a bounty turns into an interstellar bounty. That is, accrue enough fines and bounties in, say, federal space, for it to become an interstellar bounty... then go sneeze in Imperial space and you'll (very likely) get an Imperial interstellar bounty.

I'll check again sometime, the timing is weird, i was above 100 mil in fed aligned factions prior to the mission. :D

Can I side-track a little and ask how you disabled the target? I've tried a few missions rescuing hostages but I couldn't take out drives without killing the target (and failing the mission) so I was left using hatchbreakers which is painstakingly slow on a 100T+ cargo ship to get just 8 hostages.

When was the last time you did one?

Every time I've done a hijack mission recently, the mission cargo always comes out first... that behaviour's been verified by numerous other players to date.

Just last week. 7 of the 8 I needed came out pretty quickly but I used 30 hatch breakers to try to get the last one but only regular cargo was dropped. I gave up after 30 hatch breaks and just exploded the target instead hoping they'd drop what I needed. I remember when I dabbled in piracy 18 months ago or so that cargo ships used to drop cargo when blown up, just not as much as if you'd hatch break them.

So it's really common for the cargo to unavoidably smash against the hull of the target ship as it jets out, and there's only an exact quantity in the hold. If you were seeing normal cargo, and the 8th wasn't in space, that's what happened.

As soon as you start getting "normie" cargo... jump out and back in to the USS, target will respawn with a full complement of target cargo.

Aahhhh now that explains what happened. Leading on to:

I didn't know that! The mission said it was unique cargo so I assumed the signal only appeared once etc.

I've never given these missions a go until last week, now I'll give them another try.

"Unique" cargo means it's specific to that mission... that is... if you have two missions to get 8 hostages, you can't just revisit the same USS and get 16 hostages from that instance, you have to get them from the USS specific to that mission.

(Alternately, in "hauling" missions, unique means you have to haul that 80 tons of gold... you can just go buy a random 80t of gold from elsewhere and haul that)

Just note, if you blow up the target, you'll fail the mission.

Patent pending ION mine piracy, with missile bouquet as side dish :D
Followed by a tad of "bumping", if the target was nasty and boosted before the mines
were served.

Mission report:
3 piracy missions

pirate 54 tons of silver
target T9 trader
operation was successful
small influence gain

pirate 30 tons of semiconductors
target T6 trader
operation was successful
small influence gain

pirate 36 tons of power generators
target Hauler
..........
Seriously?
Had to enter a mission USS 3 times to have the chance to loot 36 tons,
fix this!

Global fed bounty didn't change,
i guess 100 mil local bounty create a 1k global bounty,
that is very weird.

Addendum:
Forgot to mention you still cannot accept piracy missions,
when you don't have sufficient cargo on the local ship,
but industry missions are fine?
Love needed. Direly.
