Ship Builds & Load Outs Piracy/Smuggling Ship Loadout

I have a Cobra MkIII. It's mostly used for mission running. I've read that they're the best smuggling ships, due to size and speed. I'd like to outfit it as a ship for both piracy and smuggling, given that piracy needs a lot of the same things smuggling does due to carrying illicit cargo.

As a further discussion point, is there a better ship for carrying out these two tasks together? I've only had luck finding loadouts for one or the other.

I only intend on fighting NPC transports, so it doesn't need to be any better at combat than that.

Current loadout is here.

Thank you for your time.

I daresay you could eliminate the SRV hangar if you really do intend to do only smuggling and piracy. There is no one to pirate on the planet surface, after all... Replace this with a hatch breaker limpet controller - NPCs will not drop their cargo just because you ask them to, and you're just as likely to blow up their whole ship (especially with the weapons you've chosen!) as disable their cargo hatch.

You may also find that the discovery scanner is superfluous for what you plan on doing and, by going with a lower class Interdictor module, you're able to carry more of the cargo dropped by the larger transports.

A final note: Piracy and smuggling, while there is some overlap, are very different professions with different requirements. A pirate most certainly needs to smuggle stolen goods into a station, but a dedicated smuggler will be more focused on evasion and avoiding detection rather than combat and cargo snatching.

2 different role, build 1 Cobra for Smuggling and 1 Cobra for Piracy, PM me and I can Show you how to build both Ship :)

My experience you don't need to worry too much about outfitting to smuggle. Having a colder running ship helps as does knowing how to either silent run into a station or just use your speed to get there faster than it takes to scan you. I sometimes smuggle stuff in my anaconda and that's a combat fit. I just silent run when on the edge of the 7.5 radius and head on in.
