is double confirmed here folks! player controlled Farragut Battle Cruisers confirmed!

An official inquiry from the Congressional Oversight Committee has been launched after reports surfaced of a pirate-aligned Farragut Battle Cruiser striking out at Federation battle groups in the LHS 3447, Fuleum and HIP 16996 systems. The inquiry will also investigate unconfirmed reports of a rogue battle cruiser outside Federation space in the Maia system.

Speaking under condition of anonymity, a source within the closed-door hearing said: "The scans said it was a Farragut and the Navy said it was a Farragut, but it's not one of ours and it had no clear identification code."

Commander Tyrit Shadowstalker

idk how people missed this post

I don't know how you jumped to the conclusion that they were player controlled. We've had several confirmed sightings of Imperial tagged Farraguts and Fed tagged Majestic class. Also recent posts about pirate Farraguts appearing as part of the Distress signal pirate waves

yep, pirate Farraguts, but yet controlled by NPC. Add these to the mysterious diamondbacks and you have thrilling+, just that for now.

This article was made because a commander got attacked by a Farragut Battle Cruiser, after he jumped to a distress call.
The same thing happened to me too, with the difference that I had to defend the Cruiser.
It surely doesn't mean that players will be able to have one soon, Frontier only published a Gal Net article about this strange incident.

First, this could be fun, however there are some concerns regarding this.

1. Where did they get it from? (lore related)
2. Capital ships need a lot more work, they are simply not dangerous enough and the heat sink mechanic (destroy them and the ship redraws) are just ridiculous. However using them as an FPS level would be great.

3. Different ship design for the pirat capital ship are needed, maybe they should be a mix of many ships.

Regarding 1) perhaps a mutiny on a Fed ship, news of which would obviously be suppressed by the Federal government.

In fact extending that line of thought, maybe it's the real reason Hudson is currently constructing a new one - he isn't expanding the fleet at all, he's replacing losses.

Also safe to assume this is what is responsible for those large wrecked ships we've been seeing around.

I doubt we will see a player controlled capital ship for a couple years at a minimum. There just isn't proper infrastructure to support such a massive beast in game. If anything I don't think they will be owned by people. With the addition of multi crew, with federation/empire ranks and with the addition of fighter bays in ships now, my guess is sometime in the distant future capital ships will be able to be docked in with current ships and depending on your rank (ex, Admiral, Rear Admiral, etc.) You'll be able to take control of them in a combat zone. If someone with higher rank enters the ship, they would then have command of the capital ship. The modification to game to make a player owned capital ship would be too game changing. Where would it dock? How would you do anything other than fight in combat zones with it? These are obviously just guesses but really if you think about it, it makes sense.

It seems a little strange that community goals are required to build capships, always a big fanfare about the latest Fed/Imperial cruiser to come online, yet pirates are able to source these trillion credit beasts without any problems.

We have a severe lack of Capital class ship designs ingame, where are the massive bulk freighters servicing stations? kitbashed pirate cruisers. Out of all my memories of elite as kid, those massive space dredgers sparked my imagination the most.

They're there man, it's just hard to get into the same instance.

tinfoil online:

It's not a pirate faction farragut. It's either a Sirius Corp Farragut, or INRA masquerading as a privateer/pirate vessel.

tinfoil offline.

Bug in the distress call POI mechanic, bug in the CZ.
FD not reacting.
FD publishes GalNet news written by player to include the bugs into the lore. (Anybody remember the cap ship attacking station while cap ship being build incident?).

Nothing to see here, just the usual bugs in Elite Dangerous and FD thinking it's enough to publish some stuff that ruins the lore/story instead of fixing the bugs.
