First of all, let me say how happy I am with this game. It's very fun and slowly but steadily I'm getting the hang of things. There's one thing that happened to me twice though and I find it very annoying.
I had a mission to kill 7 pirates (which takes ages, but the extra bounties you get from killing individual pirates is nice). After I killed 4, the next unidentified signal I entered, had a ship that offered me to kill 3 authority ships instead. Now, this seems ok, but it reset the mission for some reason. The 4 pirates I already killed were not counted anymore.
So I decided to kill the authority ships instead. However, after I killed a federation security guy (which I assumed is an authority ship) I got a bounty for 6k on myself instead and the mission did not update for the kill on the security guy.
Can anyone explain how this mechanic works and maybe explain what I'm doing wrong?
