Pirate Missions appear to have Improved

Hi Commanders,

I have been taking endless missions to improve my rank in Empire. After all, I bought the cheapo paint job offer in the Black Friday sale for the Clipper (well, it looked nice in the showroom) and have been grinding up my rank to purchase the ship ever since :rolleyes:.

On the rare occasions that I have found Kill Pirates Missions, I have taken them as a welcome relief from flying base to base. But the Missions appear to have changed in nature since the New Year, and I don't know if it is my luck/imagination/wishful thinking, so I would appreciate comments on experience by other Commanders recently.

The missions require high numbers, usually to kill at least 20 pirates, and you get a decent time period (day or two) to complete them (that was prevalent before, but the average number of kills required seems to have increased);

The missions require you to kill pirates of a certain local faction, identified by "mission target" (that too was required before).

But here's the difference:

First, on two separate missions, I have been interdicted between port and Nav Beacon by pirates who are labelled "mission target", so they are finding me first, and provide a welcome tally in the required kill list. I am not carrying cargo or other missions at the time.

On arrival at the Nav Beacon, again in two separate missions, I have attacked one pirate labelled as a mission target, and a whole group of ships have attacked me. These ships are not labelled as in a wing together, and are four or more in the same local faction. This draws in the local police force as they attack me and the Nav Beacon resembles a Conflict Zone for a few minutes ! It's different from "two or three in a wing" dog fighting which you get there from time to time.

Have other commanders noticed this shift in Pirate Mission experience? It makes for more interesting game play than the previous "fly to Nav Beacon, kill x pirates, complete mission" farming that I have experienced before. :)

I did one of these missions yesterday for 59 pirates and none of this ever happened. Could have been that I did it in a hazres, or it could've been my corvette ("whoa there big guy don't wanna start any trouble with you.")

If you kill enough of any one faction in a system, your reputation level with them will reach Enemy, and they will accordingly become a lot more aggressive towards you.

I'm not sure what was wrong with the "kill pirate" missions in the first place that they needed to be changed. The new ones aren't really worth doing.
