Ha! I thought this was cool. This is the first pirate station I've been to. Do they all have the nifty skulls painted on them?

There are a few version, most do, some also have holographic projections of the skull.

Problem is, I find most of them don't have a black market. But I digress....

I thought I was going mad when I first saw one. I had only just started playing, and had to land at such a station to complete a mission. I was terrified that my ship would be stolen!

I do love the hologram projection, a neat touch.

Theres a few around, they don't seem to be any different from a normal (sanctioned) station though :/

I think most cargo you buy from them should come already flagged as stolen, then it would actually be worth taking those "cargo must be stolen" missions

Yep, just another generic commercial outpost with a different name.

Nothing "unsanctioned" about these.
They're about as unsanctioned as military Outposts are military - or scientific Outposts are scientific... They just aren't.

If's funny that many "unsanctioned" Outposts actually have allegiance to a government within the same System. So much about being unsanctioned - these are 100% sanctioned outposts *g*

I even saw one allied to the Federation

Surely they should be sending in raids (and even capships) to take these stations, or destroy them. If they are inside faction space.

judging by the ship decals, i assumed the skull signs indicated mercenary rather than pirate?
