Pirate wolf packs?

The same tools are given to all players. The effective use of the tools will vary from player to player, which is many times confused with "unbalance".

The higher powers forbid us all for playing a multi player open world without playing with other players... Yes it is intended that you go multi player. That is the whole concept of a multi player game. To play with buddies and against.

Sure, but somehow I doubt, that traders will be able to participate in a useful way... Trading is a pretty boring activity for most players, and escorting a trading ship even more so. Both will get less profit... the Escort could make more by just doing the trade run himself and the trader loses what he has to pay for his escort, so to be realistic, traders will usually have to fly without escort, simply because there are not enough players willing to escort them for an accaptable payment.

Logical solution: Trade in solo. There will possibly not be too many traders left in open for the pirate wings to prey on, if there is no balancing factor on the traders' side.

But I guess we'll have to wait and see how this is going to work out, before we can judge it.

What you described is bound to happen unless they give strong incentives to trade in open.
Given the nature of trading and how boring it is I would say the majority of people still trade in open (seeing a hollow square every now and then with a little chance of something unexpected to happen is still better than nothing). But I doubt someone will actually (save for hardcore roleplayers or just a few curious people) keep hiring armed escort on regular basis. For this to work they will have to provide that something extra to compensate both traders and their escorts.

Yeah 'Wings' will be useful, but most traders will go Solo and not hire NPC wingmen. Just expect it...

I think they need to make wings attach together then travel as one supercruise element and drop in/out at the same place. The more complicated they make it the worse the feature will be, if they drop out and have to enter the instance manually that would be as bad as it is now.

I've got my fingers crossed for this because its huge, its a hugely important part of the game. If they get it right I could swing quite a few people to start playing, if its wrong its doomed to obscurity for them!

To make it better for the Traders, I'd like to see a methodology that Fighter wings have say a mximum of four members, but a Trader could hire 4 escorts. A wing of four traders with 16 guards would be a challenge to 4 pirates, I think. :)

Think FW190's vs Mustangs and B-17s!

I cannot wait for Wings! Just imagine a team of eagles and vipers swooping into to disable the prey while an Asp or Type 6 lumbers in to scoop up the spoils! Then they jump back to their secret base to enjoy the spoils of being a SPACE BUCCANEER!

Your forgetting the part where the lowly trader cuts his connection
