Newcomer / Intro Pirates at Jameson Memorial

Good evening, I am relatively new to the game. I recently unlocked the Shinrarta Dezhra system. For the first time, I bought a federal gunship (as I was mostly doing trading/mining). I took her out for a spin around the earth like planet near the station.

To my surprise, I was interdicted by a fully engineered fer-de-lance while having an empty cargo hold. I was subsequently shot to 5% hp in a few seconds and left without a working frame shift drive, forced to self-destruct. Is this a regular occurrence in Shinrarta Dezhra? Are there any bounty hunters going for them? Any advice to not get griefed to smithereens?

Thank you!

Yes, there are bullies out there. Zieman is right, best play in solo or a group until you have the wherewithal to answer the bullies back, oh and if you switch off or ‘combat log’ (they have little moralistic structure save the rules they use to suit) they are quite likely to put up a video on youtube claiming you have cheated, the sanctimonious bedwetting whiners. They bring nothing but misery to the game, largely picking on newcomers, as for “get good at combat”, never see these cowards on the CQC part of the game, as expected. Ignore them, join a group and don’t give them the satisfaction! Take care, bullies are as bullies do.

Yes. It may happen more often than not.

Sometimes, but if they are there only to gank and prey on the weak, they will simply wake away.

Play in Solo/PG around hubs like Shinrarta or Deciat or whatever systems might pe listed on Inara.cz as high/medium threat - at least until you can afford to fully engineer your ships and learn how to evade interdiction of how to High Wake if you get interdicted (or any other time you dont want to be interrupted from whatever you plan to do)

Regarding this, in the right panel, Ship section, you have Repair/Reboot. Do that, it will repair the modules that are knocked out (0 integrity). They will be repaired to 1% only, but it will be enough for them to function - you might get some malfunctions, they will generally work

A few more things, perhaps.
1) you had no need to self destruct - on the same panel, there is the "reboot&repair" option, which would have restored all your modules into a "barely functional" state. Takes a few seconds to run through, and you may have to run it several times until all of your modules are back up again - and even then, a low health FSD might fail on you several times before you actually can make it into SC or hyperspace.
2) ShinDez is known for this, as is San Tu. As everyone in ShinDez is Elite (in some way), it is simply assumed by a lot of people that you know what it means to fly in Open and can defend or otherwise hold up yourself. If you don't want this, simply don't go into ShinDez in Open. San Tu and especially the installation there is the inofficial PvP hub, I wouldn't give too much on the Inara rating - especially since San Tu is (or at least was the last time I checked) an Anarchy system.
3)Your assailant only wanted to spar - he left you (barely) alive, theoretically able to get yourself to a station and repair. You weren't a newbie, as you were able to enter ShinDez. Not quite the same league as the wannabe PvP aces lurking e.g. in Deciat and attempting to kill newbies.

Bounty hunters going after them? What are you offering?
In-game, they will receive a (small) bounty and, if they kill you, notoriety. There are some known criminals out there with several millions of bounties on their head, but the payout to another player is limited (I don't know the number, I don't go after them). This pulls in NPC bounty hunters and, if they are sufficiently bad, a special force called ATR which are less laughable than the regular security forces.
There are also players who hunt the worst offenders (or anyone with a bounty) - but here, we get again the problem: what are you willing to pay?

If it concerns a specific player, you'll need to take this over into Discord (or maybe reddit), as "naimng and shaming" is NOT permitted in this forum.
